Recruiting: Next 2 yrs. most critical ever?

Sherri will sign players this fall.

OU already has one verbal from Williams.

The question really is can Sherri land 2 two top 50 players at PF/C
And one elite top 20 player regardless of position to replace
the talent lost in the senior class.

You make a very valid point. Signing players is one thing, signing players everyone else wants is the difference in great recruiting and average recruiting.

Oh, yeah. Thank you Norman.

So we have five guards and one power forward/center committed as it stands right now through 2016.

Guards: Williams, Carter, Wyatt, Edwards, Dungee

Forward: Kellog.

Uhhhhh. That's not very balanced recruiting, IMO. Especially when our front line reminds me of the defenders in the Alamo.

I know Sherri's in on some bigs. Let's hope her luck changes and she signs them -- at least one, hopefully, this Fall would be nice. I'd prefer 2.

U16 trials are in May. If Dungee makes the team. She will probably be friends with some top players. She could help OU with recruits in the future. Also Coale will coach in July at the World University Games, ages 17-24. She could have some 2014 players on the team. They could like the way she coaches. Probably the team will consist of college players. Also what would Gold do to enhance her image with recruits.

I'm not sure that Coach Coale will be coaching anyone who would be recruitable. The eligibility requirement for the WUG states: "World University Games is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17 and 24 (born between January 1, 1989 and December 31, 1995), and are or have been within the past year, a student at a college or university." (emphasis mine) I can't think that winning a gold would hurt her coaching reputation though.

I agree that this coaching opportunity for Sherri probably won't have an impact on our recruiting.

Personally I don't understand all the angst over Sherri's recruiting. The woman has 381 wins, including 24 NCAA tourney wins. It should be noted that OU's TWO winningest men's coaches(Tubbs and Sampson) have 333 and 279 wins respectively and a combined 26 NCAA wins.I think a coach with that kind of track record is well aware of what she needs to recruit talent wise and I trust she will get it done.

:clap:clap:clap Couldn't have said it better! BUT you'll get your "Debbie Downers" for sure!!!

I learned a long time ago that some people believe everyone should accept whatever a coach does or says. Others believe it's more appropriate to think for themselves.

I agree with this regardless if you are talking about a coach or any other noun or concept. Also keep in mind that things and events do not have to be mutually exclusive. This is a great board to follow and you are one of the reasons why. I am an open-minded skeptic by nature and do possess a basic level of critical thinking and I can appreciate some of what Sherri's critics have to say. Also, some of us root for our team in different ways with various levels of investment. For example, I personally love Sherri's approach as a coach and am not implying anyone on the board feels any different one way or another. When it comes to recruiting I usually take the wait and see approach. Once someone officially commits I am a fan. I would like us to play the most difficult schedule in the country every year so they can get tuff. I enjoy how they are always optimistic, smiling, hustling, and even praising the lord (and im not religious myself). And I try to make a point to appreciate them game to game and watch whatever growth they have as players, students, and ladies. Honestly, national championships are a bit far down the list of things that I am concerned about. Anyway I suppose that my attempt at a point is that I appreciate all the posters on here because it would be boring to follow if everyone was me.

And you should think for yourselves. But when you post those thoughts and they are at variance with the professionals we have running our program, then the rest of us have to think for ourselves and decide who we think knows what they're talking about. For me it's usually a pretty easy decision.

I don't think we are in conflict with Sherri on most points at all. When it comes to recruiting for example, she has tried to recruit bigs but hasn't been very successful in the last couple of years. It isn't like she hasn't thought about the need for bigs, she's tried to sign them. When we talk about the need for better rebounding, Sherri is always in agreement. When we talk about turnovers, Sherri is in agreement. When we discuss the need for better defense, Sherri again is in the amen corner.

The problem is, some on this board perceive any negative comments as an attack on Sherri. Sure, she is ultimately responsible because she is the HC. Just like she gets the credit for where the program is today. What I find interesting is, when someone on here complains about turnovers, we are being negative. But, when Sherri says the same thing, she's a genius.
