OU Basketball 2012-13 Seniors (5 scholarship players)
> Romero Osby ... 6-8, 232 Forward ... Meridian, MS / Mississippi State
> Andrew Fitzgerald ... 6-8, 247 Forward ... Baltimore, MD (Brewster Academy NH)
> Steven Pledger ... 6-4, 222 Guard ... Chesapeake, VA (Atlantic Shores Christian School)
> Sam Grooms ... 6-1, 203 Guard ... Greensboro, NC / Chipola College (Marianna, FL)
> Casey Arent ... 6’10, 227 Center, Sierra CC, Rocklin, CA

With 5 seniors departing after this season, there should be 5 scholarships available for the 2013 recruiting class. So far there have been 2 commitments for 2013 ... Jordan Woodard (HS point guard) and Dominique Elliott (JUCO forward). Also, it is my understanding that the plan is to place freshman forward C.J. Cole on scholarship next season. By my math, this leaves two spots open in the 2013 recruiting class.

Questions: Who do you see as some of the top targets for these two scholarships? Who do you think OU might actually get?

Thanks!

A freshman center for need and they have an eye on a small forward don't they.

I'd like to land a really good big, and a true 2/3 guard.

Why does everyone think OU only needs big guys? Next year OU returns M'Baye, Neal, Spangler, Bennett, Cole and they have Elliott committed. That is 6 forwards. Realisticially only 4 of them can play and only 3 of them for significant minutes.

The backcourt is Hield, Hornbeak, Cousins, Woodard and Clark. Given that I have not seen four of these guys play and Clark is not a great outside shooter, I would think a shooter is as big a need as a center. Personally, I think every team needs a guy like Pledger, Sieger, Michael Neal, Hollis Price etc. to knock down point shots. Who is that guy for OU next season? I can tell you it isn't Cam Clark.

I would like to see OU get another PF/C and another g/w player that is an excellent shooter. Just having a shooter come off the bench is huge.

neal 6'7 played the 3 last year in almost all of his min ...

M'Baye 6'9 is a 3 that might play some 4 this year ..

so that leaves us Bennett 6'8 as the only returning true big that is going to play (and how much is still a big ?)
Spangler 6'8 i would guess would come in and start (depending on how much he improves) ..
cole is a 6'6 4 that will be a frosh he will need time to develop

elliot is 6'7 and i'm sure he will play ...

why do we need another 1 or 2 true bigs ...

SIZE we need it .. i would expect the last two commits to both be 6'9 or bigger

I say at least 1 "Big" and the other player to be the best player we can get. I don't care if he is a guard or a big (I would prefer a big though). We do need size, but we need talent more than anything else.

One reason could be that M'Baye, Neal and Bennett will be seniors in '13-'14.
And, arguably, Cole is just a project.

I had the same impression myself, but really we can afford to take another guard. At this point we should grab the two best available and roll with it.
