We see lots of discussions about us being out recruited by others.

Is that really true or are we just generally going after different players?

I admit I don't follow recruiting all that closely. Can we name tons of players we were recruiting really hard that we lost to other schools? Or is it just an occasional thing? We do seem to hold our cards pretty close when it comes down to who we are recruiting?

Do you have stories about us losing hard fought recruiting battles?

We lose recruits that the board wants. It is assumed that Sherri would want them. Of course, these assumptions are made by the same people who say she doesn't keep in contact with her recruits. I would assume that they always keep in contact with people in whom they are no longer interested.

We do see things at times like the comments of Skylar Diggins or Kiah Stokes who were down to OU and xxxxx. Sherri is rather silent until after they have signed.

This time last year, Sherri was about to lose a sensational recruit because she wasn't keeping in touch. The recruit went to some place like Belmont or Liberty. Since she was necessary for us to get Cox, I assume that Cox is headed to Belmont or Liberty.

Yes, if you want I can do the research and list the top players that OU has missed out on lately.
For this most recent class, Sherri only signed one player and that was EJ.
I think Sherri only used an official visit on EJ.
Unlike football recruiting there are not 4 national services with paid subscribers demanding news so it's very different landscape finding out data.
There are two services but the scope of their info is pretty inconsistent. ESPN's coverage of women's hoops recruiting has varied from involved to disinterested.

Someone on Sherri's staff tips off James Hale on recruiting off the record that's often the only real source of info we get.
Sherri never goes on the record about players that she missed out on, no coach really does that.
They might provide the media with a nice quote two or three years down the road when they play a squad.

OU's recruiting appears to have gotten much better with the return of Pam DeCosta.
Pam appears to be the closer on the staff.
Pam uses the WBB twitter to great effect in recruiting.

Sherri badly needs to increase her presence on social media. Hopefully we will see some changes to that in the offseason.

Yes, we miss out on players that commit to our rivals as well as other schools. As an example, we lost Courtney Walker and Peyton Little to A&M. We got Peyton back only because she was not happy being an Aggie. She and Kornet remained good friends and I believe that had a lot to do with Peyton being a Sooner. Walker is a good player who committed to OU but changed when it was reported the Sooner coaches stopped contacting her.

We lost Alexis Prince to Baylor. She isn't a great player but not bad.

If you notice, Baylor and Texas have both beaten UCONN recently for recruits. Without looking, I think you can add Tenn. as well. It does not appear OU is signing any players who are being recruited by UCONN, Tenn, Notre Dame, etc.

We need to win some of those battles. Baylor is beating us regularly because they are signing better players. Cox is a great one to start with to break this pattern and take our recruiting to a new level.

I realize that. But, you would never have known that from the attention that she was getting on this board as a must have. We have threads about another player who is apparently the best ever that just doesn't seem to have any interest from the scouts.

Again to be fair,
Llanusa, Dungee, and Mulkey are all top 30 kids who verballed very early in their process.
UConn, Baylor, Tenn may all have been involved at some point.

Does OU really have a recruiting insider? It is quite apparent that Hale is really only interested in football. That's where his money is. If prodded intensely, he may actually follow up on something to do with women's basketball. But, that isn't his interest or income.

We've lost some recruits and that's common knowledge. We had some rough years, however last year and this season and over the next our recruiting has really improved, IMHO.

You can attribute that to Pam, if you like. I think she has been a factor. Additionally, I believe Sherri and the entire staff seem to have realized that recruiting was not great over a few years. The effort seems to have grown stronger.

I think recruiting was a growing problem that has now taken a definite turn for the better.

Jo'nah Johnson looks to be a South Carolina fan... Texas Untied is off to a hot start. The number 1 player in the 2018 class (texas commit) is also on there team.

I'm not sure about others, but when I see a top player have Oklahoma on their list of top 5 or so (per ESPN Hoopgurlz), that's the association I make about not getting heralded recruits to come in.
