I find it hard to believe after how hard Maddie has re-habbed to get back into playing shape that she would not finish out her playing career and at least 3 years if not 4 if she wants to petition for a 6th year to the NCAA. I don't see her leaving after next year.
Maddie will be here as long as she wishes, which I suspect and hope will be another three years. She loves this enough to go through two rehabs, and she likes it here. If you haven't noticed, Maddie is actually having fun. Some players are playing because they are supposed to. Maddie is out there having a good time.
We aren't likely to recruit anyone as good as Maddie, and we have Llanusa, Mulkey, and Dungee coming in. I don't think some of you get the idea of how good she may end up being. She can be the best at her position, whatever that is.
Now, as far as Atlanta's post: I tend to agree with most of your post.
OU was a bit hit and miss in the last ten games or so. I think it depended a lot on whether they were doing as coached or not. Sometimes, unless you are at UConn or ND and have a solid bench of quality, it is difficult to get players to play like they are coached. Geno gets away with it because you may be an All-American in HS, but you won't play unless you do it his way. Sherri doesn't quite have that luxury. She needs everyone to buy in.
Sometimes they did. Sometimes, they didn't. If you look at the games that we won vs those that we lost, there were two key differences---defensive intensity and energetic movement. When we moved on offense, we got open shots. When we got open shots, we tended to hit a good percentage. When we didn't move well, we ended up with turnovers or shots that were not really what we wanted. We missed.
Often, when Sherri jerked someone, it wasn't that they had just committed a turnover. They weren't moving. They had no life. She put in life. We could get away with a lifeless performance against Tech or KState. We could really do it against OSU and TCU. But, we couldn't do it against WV, IS, Texas, and Baylor. Each had an obstacle that we had to overcome. We needed energy and movement. We just flat out quit moving against Texas. We had spurts. But, our droughts were of our own creation, not theirs.
I think the girls forget to play like they are taught. They forget that they were told that they needed intensity and movement. Instead, they revert to their own personalities, which tends to be some individualism. Each was a scorer in HS. They each sit there with the ball trying to find a way to get in a position to where THEY can score, faking steps one way or the other. They aren't looking to see who is open on the pass, and the others aren't moving. They forget to do what they are told. Geno would bench them until they got the message. Sherri doesn't have enough. Hopefully, she can get that message out to Gioya, Peyton, Maddie, Gabbi, Nicole, LaNesia, Kay Kay, and Vivi, although I think Gabbi and Maddie are not really offenders. If they keep this up, we may find Penzo starting.
