Not an RPI adjustment, but a suggested change offered for consideration. Make the conference champion from each P5 conference a Top-8 national seed. A P5 conference championship should be highly valued. It seems to me that the champion of the B10 and B12 earned it, regardless of some subjective "eye test." This still leaves 3 spots for other worthy teams to be projected hosts of a super-regional.
Of course this presents another issue. Do you promote the regular season conference champion or tournament champion? Then, who decides? Does each conference make their own rules for the "conference champion qualifier" or does the NCAA dictate?
I prefer the regular season champion .. the team that competed at a high level all season long.
Look at B12 baseball today. OSU was the #8 seed in the conference based on a mediocre season, yet the Cowboys won the B12 tournament. Should a team with a 8-14 (.363) losing conference record get a Top-8 national seed? No, in my opinion. The regular season champ is more worthy, IMHO.
