RPI: OU checks in at 45 today

I am probably getting overly optimistic, but I am starting to think this team can win 20 games in the regular season.

I've been saying 20 games since before the season. Very optimistic, sure, but I had faith Coach Kruger could get the most out of a group that wasn't as terrible as Capel made them seem. His tenure here gets worse and worse with every passing game. Plus, the Big XII doesn't seem that strong outside of KU and Mizzou.

What Lon has done with this program in such a short time is nothing short of amazing. I definitely see the team playing in the post season. The debate is now whether it will be NCAA or NIT.

Baylor?

I'm just worried that this team, specifically the guards, are going to run out of steam. I'm also worried about injuries. An injury to Pledger or Grooms that would require them to miss even a few games would be CRUSHING to this team. For those reasons, I am keeping my expectations where they were before the season started: NIT.

RPI Ratings of our opponents thus far:

Idaho St - 320
Coppin St - 98
Washington St - 176
Santa Clara - 96
Sac St - 276
ORU - 123
Arkansas - 131

Others:
Houston - 215
Cincinnati - 187

20 games is not out of the question. Hopefully we can come out 11-1 from our non-conference. All 12 non-conference games are against unranked teams. With the suspensions of the Cincy players, this non-conference schedule is turning out to be one of the easier non-conf schedules we've had at OU over the past 20 years.

According to Soonerstats.com, we played all unranked teams back in 1998. But that may be wrong, because we lost 4 games out of the first 9 and that website isn't 100% accurate on the rankings.

st louis .. has been in the top 25 this season already a few hours after they beat us.. and very well could be again

I'm afraid SLU will head south in the A-10 which is looking pretty tough this year. We just need them to stay in the top 50 of the RPI so the loss doesn't ding our bubble status. If we can get to 20 wins and limit our losses to teams in the top 100 we should get in by a hair.

I just don't see SLU staying this hot the entire season, sure they're 9-1, but the only real thing they do well is FG%. They are a terrible rebounding team.

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but OU got some coaches poll votes this week too!

Lonster Monster is probably well respected among his peers so they're giving him a shoutout for his rebuilding job thus far, methinks. Hopefully the media side will follow suit soon too.

RPI doesn't mean crap at this point in the season. Too small of sample size. Not only in regards to where OU is rated, but where our opponents are too. Some of these "bad RPI teams" won't look so bad when the season ends.

I really don't think we should be talking about RPI or rankings this year. We got spanked by St. Louis and are still rebuilding. I bet we'll be pretty salty at the end of the year, though, and a trip to the NIT would be huge for our confidence.

I agree we will need some luck in avoiding injuries to make the NCAA tournament. Blair starting at PG if Grooms got hurt would be a significant downgrade, although Blair has done alright. In the front court, an injury to Osby or Fitzgerald would really hurt. I think Honore, Washington, and Arent wouldn't hurt us much defensively or rebounding, but they would be a big downgrade offensively. But, I think a NCAA bid could be in the works if we continue to can win a few Big 12 road games.
