Russia is there to kill ISIS and save the Assad government.... The only legit players fighting the Assad government is Al-Qaeda and ISIS. Seems like the Russians are backing the least bad option here.

Will be interesting to see how this escalates... I don't know why the US, or any other nation, would be opposed to Russia and Iran taking out ISIS. It's a major problem that the US might not have to deal with. Americans, British, French, Turkish, and Syrian Air Forces are in the skies constantly now bombing ISIS, and Russia/Iran are arming, training Syrian ground troops and participating themselves now.

Thoughts?

Better them than us. The more others take up the battle the better. Of course the neocons hate this because they want high oil prices and high defense spending and the best way to accomplish that is to participate in maintaining chaos in the Middle East under the guise of "the war on terror".

I agree, better them than us. Let's say Russia/Iran went all in and destroyed ISIS... I bet folks like Graham, Cruz, McCain, etc would hate it because America didn't lead the charge. Two "enemies" took care of our problem for us.

Of course it's only "our problem" because Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/McCain/Graham/etc are directly responsible for creating ISIS.

Our invasion of Iraq was met with resistance initially called "the insurgency", which gained momentum and morfed into "Al Qaeda in Iraq", which morfed into ISIS. Their leaders are mainly from the Iraqi military those geniuses disbanded.

Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/McCain/Graham/etc are the most incompetent foreign policy imbeciles in the history of the country. Truly stupid people.

Disbanding the army and banning all baathists from any political/government position were crucial mistakes made by the administration. Cost many lives.

The Russian military buildup continues... looks like they are definitely going to start bombing. I wonder if they will have boots on the ground or just air.

Pretty crazy to see the Russian military doing this in the Middle East.

ummm I don't think you know what directly responsible means. And you obviously do not understand what ISIS is either.

.

This is nothing new. They have always meddled in the Middle East just like the USA. They invaded Afghanistan back in 1979 and battled for 10 years before pulling out. That's actually what got Bin Laden involved in fighting. And who armed Bin Laden to fight the Soviets? Ronald Reagan. lol Did George W Bush learn from the Soviet failure in Afghanistan? Of course not. He barreled in half cocked and we're still there accomplishing nothing. The second we leave it will revert right back to the way it was just like Iraq.

The best Middle East policy is stay away. As Obama continues to accurately say there is no military solution over there. Only a political solution. And they have to do it. We can't force it on them.

It's real simple. ISIS did not exist prior to Ws invasion of Iraq. They were formed to fight US forces in Iraq. The "surge" did not eliminate them. They just went underground for a while. The invasion of Iraq is directly responsible for their existence. No Iraq invasion. No ISIS. Their commanders are ex Iraqi military. Again direct responsibility for their existence is Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld/McCain/Graham/etc. No talking point by clown Jeb Bush or any other drooling republican will change this. lol @ George W Bush kept us safe. Moronic.

Remember when McCain had his picture taken with what he referred to as "freedom fighters" in Syria and they ended up being ISIS fighters. lol @ that idiot. Sarah Palin. ha ha ha

Are you saying ISIS existed in Iraq and Syria prior to the invasion of Iraq?

He doesn't have a clue what he's saying. As usual just argumentitive snippets with no substance or credibility. One of those people who can't back up any of his silly positions.

ISIS did not exist prior to Ws invasion of Iraq

A simple google search disproves this

The roots of ISIS go back to Oct. 15, 2006, when what is known as the Islamic State of Iraq (ISI) was established. That groups was formed by uniting several groups, most notably al-Qaeda in Mesopotamia, led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Mujahedeen Shura Council in Iraq, and Jund al-Sahhaba [Soldiers of the Prophet’s Companions].

ISI took Baquba, Iraq, as its capital and swore allegiance to Abu Omar al-Baghdadi as the group’s emir.

I have now seen this kind of discussion with Soonerbounce13 in several threads.... he never really proves anything. He will just tell me that I, or someone else doesnt understand something, yet doesn't explain it. Or he will just "lol", but again, not explain anything or make a point of his own.

He doesn't always do this, but it happens. Either debate properly or say nothing at all, naw mean?

New reports surfacing showing Russian, Syrian, Iraqi, and Iranian military leaders meeting in Baghdad to discuss strategy.

This of course follows meetings between Iranian and Russian generals in Moscow a few weeks ago and a proclamation that something Iranian/Russian related in Syria or against ISIS was going to shock the world, according to Iran's highest ranked general.

Other reports are discussing the possibility of up to 50,000 Iraqi and Iranian militia coming into Syria to fight with Hezbollah and the Syrian Army, with Russian backing and air power.

Something big could be coming in the next few weeks, and I don't see any way the Assad government falls with full Iranian, Iraqi, and Russian support.

Of course, our government spent $500 million and it only resulted in 60 trained rebels, lol. Members of congress calling the program a total failure. The rebels trained either died or defected, and other reports show they switched sides after entering Syria.

What in the hell are we doing? Putin is playing chess and the US is playing checkers right now, or so it seems.

lol @ trotting out this ridiculous talking point again. Obama led the world in imposing harsh sanctions against Putin. He is totally isolated and the Russian economy is in tatters. Meanwhile the U.S. economy grew at 3.9% in the most recent quarter and Obama is leading the free world.

Obama has schooled Putin at every turn. Nobody cares about Syria or the Middle East except far right neocons. It's the economy stupid. My favorite is the idiot statement "the world is on fire". Well except for North America, and South America, and Asia, and Western Europe .... Yeah but other than that "the world is on fire". lol

Also, none of what you said changes the fact that we spent $500 million to train 60 people.

  • Russia involvement in Syria could have impacts on the Qatar-Turkey pipeline
  • Russia got Crimea
  • Russia *could* win in Syria
  • Russia will use Syria and Ukraine to try and end sanctions imposed it
  • Russia won big with the Iran deal (I think the US did the right thing there as well, but Russia will benefit greatly from it)

Also, how can you say Obama doesn't care about Syria or the Middle East when we are spending nearly $10 million a day over there right now? We've spent billions in the ISIS campaign in Iraq and Syria, and that is going to keep climbing. Our military is actively engaged in Syria and the Middle East. Seems strange to say that we are doing that and "dont care".

We supply, train, finance, and engage with practically every country in the Middle East. We just spent years negotiating the Iran deal.

There isn't a shred of evidence that indicates the US doesnt care about the Middle East.
