Sagarin RPI Ranking

Interesting. Probably better than the polls, realtimerpi, and the NCAArpi. I still wonder why they keep ranking Stanford, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Abilene Christian so high. It is entertaining that BYU hovers around #10, probably due to their win over A&M.

This does strongly support Syb's argument about relative SOS in the conference.

We played the 85th hardest.
BU played the 149th hardest.
TX played the 198th hardest.
TCU played the 306th hardest.
OSU played the 250th hardest.

And Mississippi? the 323rd hardest. No way you can count a win over them worth much.

If we had beaten both NT and A&M (both within grasp), we would likely be top 5 or so. Interesting.

By the way, the easiest way to see all this is in the conference ratings at the end of the rating list.

The various rpi ratings may begin to change now that conference season has arrived.

USC: undefeated, #13 Sag, #4 in the others, lost their conference opener to UCLA, 78-73. USC had no business being this high. Probably due to their win over Santa Clara who beat Stanford.

Baylor: #2 lost. Baylor is a top five or ten team. But, they lost on the road to an OSU team that had a good night.

Mississippi State: #14 Sag beat South Florida, #15 Sag, 68-58, in Starksville. Best win they have had.

Washington #19 Sag: beat Washington State in the conference opener.

Washington #19 is rated higher than OU #24 although losing at home to OU.
Purdue #27 is rated higher than Boston College #40 who beat them at Purdue.
Texas A&M #20 is rated higher than #51 BYU who beat them.
Stanford #6 is rated higher than #58 Santa Clara who beat them at home. Stanford is rated higher than USC and Washington, both of whom trounced Santa Clara.
