What do you guys know about Gary Simon, a 6' 2" 180 dual sport star out of Florida? He's an OU football recruit, but reportedly has been told he could also play basketball, and even met with Coach Kruger during his visit to Norman. I found a brief (see below) where he scored 27 points in a recent game.

According to MaxPreps (see link), he's averaging more than 16 ppg, 5.6 rebs and better than 3 assists and 3 steals per game.

If he signs with OU as a football recruit on Wednesday, is it possible he could break the ice and actually play both sports?

Boys basketball
Gibbs 63, St. Petersburg 53: Gary Simon proved again that he is one of the top players in the area as he led Gibbs with 27 points. Devontay Williams added 14 for the Gladiators. Demontrae Adams led the Green Devils with 13.

he might have been "told" he can play basketball .. but in reality if he wants to ever be a starter on the football team .. he will not play another sport ..

I don't recall if there has been another one. But, I remember when Dean Blevins was recruited. He was recruited and signed as a duel sport participant. Switzer and the basketball coach (seems like it was Joe Ramsey-but, I,m old) were both at the signing-photo shoot.

Dean participated in both sports as a freshman and lettered in basketball. Then Switzer tighteded the screws and he had to pick.

Not going to happen, he'll be playing fb exclusively, how many guys has bob had that have been dual....

few for Bob - Brandon Jones did play some OF for the baseball team, I think. OSU has had a couple in recent memory - RW McQuarters and a big TE / DE who played C on the basketall team - name escapes me, but both were decent at basketball.

None who wanted to play basketball. Oh, he talks a good show, it simply never happens.

As Dr. Sleep and jaymOU pointed out, Brandon Jones played baseball for a time (I believe it was for two seasons). But that's it, unless I've missed someone.

Then, again, there is always a first time. That's why I asked Sam and Will if they could shed some light on the possibility that Simon might start a new trend?

Unless the football teams adds an athletic 6'6-6'8 type, I don't think any high school guard will be able to help the basketball next season

and brandon jones was in the dog house until he quit baseball ..

he started in the OF as a frosh on the baseball team
