Sam Grooms finishes 3rd in the nation among Juco players

:woot
Have said it multiple times...All-American nominations for JUCO are based on getting to Hutch for the national tournament. There are plenty of JUCO players who can make a postive impact given they are put in a position to use their strengths (perimeter shooter, rebounder, etc.)

With that said, JUCO ball is not as good as it was 10 years ago.

The main reason for this?????

PREP SCHOOLS

Kids can go to a prep school and get another year to get qualified for school. They then have 4 years to play still.

Go to Juco, you have to graduate and will only have 3 years to play unless you redshirt one year or you graduate with an associates in 1 year. (Unless previously qualified out of HS)

The problem is not that juco talent isnt available, its that the evaluation and ranking system is bogus.

Agreed 100%.

There may be less "stars" available. Less Corey Brewers. Less Ace McGees. Less Nolan Johnsons. But there are still some stars out there, and there are PLENTY of role players.

But like you said, the rating system is bogus, and fans assume every Juco recruit is brought in to start, star, and dominate. That simply isn't true. Some of them are brought in simply to be solid reserves. Chris Walker was never brought in to play more than 10 minutes per game. Same with Omar Leary. The same should have been true of Washington/Thompson.

Will Clyburn (Utah, now ISU-Small Forward) - Led the Utes in scoring (17.1), rebounding (7.8), double-doubles (8), 3-pointers (62), 3-point percentage (40.3 percent) and steals (34). He was ranked the #53 juco player in the country and he came in and was the best player in the Mountain West outside of Jimmer.

Kawhi Leonard was better than Clyburn.

Just like Video killed the Radio star....

Prep schools killed the Juco talent.

You won't see juco talent like there was back in the 80's and 90's. Larry Johnson, Anthony Cade, Jackie Jones, Skeeter, guys of that caliber...would have went the prep school route if it was as prominent back then.

Kinda sad in a way. I used to love recruiting jucos cuz you could plug in a few studs every year that were so much more ready to play than true freshmen.

There still are some good solid players...but they are defintely fewer and further between.
