Sampson wins National Championship:James/Reynolds/Griffin/Griffin/Crock

Here is your line up. Phone call gate would not have kept us out of post season play. This doesn't count other talent Sampson would have added to the fold. Maybe Rontie Clarke off the bench raining 3's.

Damion James - 3
Scottie Reynolds - QB
Blake Griffin - Center/Superman
Taylor Griffin - 4
Tony Crocker - 2

Son of a buck what a starting lineup. Kelvin really left Capel a lifetime opportunity.

Today sucks
Blake would not have come here with Sampson, how many times do you peolpe have to hear this? He did not like the man.

and which one won the national title?

neither.

I think Sampson did a great job at OU.....I'm just saying I don't think he would have won the title with that group.

Injuries played a big factor in 02, I believe...they were the best team in the country that year.

The injury to the PG hurt big time.....I don't disagree...they MIGHT have been the best team in the country that year.

I didn't realize a team had to win it all to be considered great.

I slightly back off that GREAT statement......you don't have to win it to be a great team. I think our 1988 team was great....and that 2002 team of Kelvin's was a rare team as well.

How about all the pain he has caused me from watching my beloved University's basketball program die a slow and painful death?

wow. where did this guy come from?

If this truly caused you pain in life I pity you. Actually I might be jealous of you if you don't have any worries in life besides OU bball. To hate a guy b/c he may not be a good coach is just pathetic.

No doubt he would have won one with that group. Would have been nice...

John Cleese would have won with that group. Shirley Temple would have won with that group (just trying to run the trend into the ground.)

Capel made it to the elite 8 without James and Reynolds. I have no doubt that we win the NC with that group and with Warren as well.

Is it on record that Blake disliked Kelvin? It's been rumored for awhile. But then again, some folks think that Kelvin "ran off every bit of true talent that he had...."

Blake has never said he wouldn't have signed with OU if Sampson was the coach. His brother was at OU, always wanted to play college ball with his brother, it was a no brainer he was headed to OU if I was the coach or Charles Manson. With James and Reynolds already in the fold BG would have known OU was going to the final 4 with him under the rim.

You people that say he hated Sampson have no idea what you are talking about. You sound foolish

The bolded portion is the key point. I have seen from several sources that Taylor was thinking of transferring, if Sampson stayed. If Taylor isn't at OU, then Blake doesn't come to OU.

John Cleese would have gotten too many technicals because of his silly walks...

Don't forget that Kelvin also had a great team in his second year at IU. Before he left, those guys were a top 5 team, and playing well.

Also, as for Blake coming to OU or not with Kelvin still here, a couple of points. First, kids are fickle. For every Blake that MIGHT not have come to OU b/c of Kelvin, there would be kids like Eric Gordon that actually wanted to play for him at IU.

I'm not sure those would have been the starters. Kelvin didn't like big wings, he'd have had James playing the 4, ala Najera and Minor (mostly). Kelvin was also in on a couple of JUCO's that year, the good kind of JUCO's, an they followed him to IU. Forgetting the guards name, but he was a great defender and good driver. Also had a JUCO big man, not very tall but a wide load. OU probably would have landed both of them. Not to mention AJ was on that team as well. Godbold was there, Nater Carter, and Kelvin might have kept Keith Clark eligible.

Taylor would more than likely have come off the bench...IMO
