Sampson wins National Championship:James/Reynolds/Griffin/Griffin/Crock

Don't forget that Kelvin also had a great team in his second year at IU. Before he left, those guys were a top 5 team, and playing well.

Also, as for Blake coming to OU or not with Kelvin still here, a couple of points. First, kids are fickle. For every Blake that MIGHT not have come to OU b/c of Kelvin, there would be kids like Eric Gordon that actually wanted to play for him at IU.

Gordon was a stud

Another team that lost in the 1st round under Sampson.

Here is your line up. Phone call gate would not have kept us out of post season play. This doesn't count other talent Sampson would have added to the fold. Maybe Rontie Clarke off the bench raining 3's.

Damion James - 3
Scottie Reynolds - QB
Blake Griffin - Center/Superman
Taylor Griffin - 4
Tony Crocker - 2

Son of a buck what a starting lineup. Kelvin really left Capel a lifetime opportunity.

Today sucks
Drugs are bad,just say no.

I have never seen/heard Blake say that. I have seen a lot of speculation that he would not have gone to OU. Ultimately, none of us know what would have happened and we will never will.

He has said it...more than once. Most read it on this website, so there's nothing to speculate...it's a fact at this point. Regardless, there's nothing wrong with dreaming.

I couldn't make this quote up.

That's good stuff.

If Blake disliked Kelvin so much, why did he lobby hard for Kelvin to become coach of the Clippers?

Neither could I. There were multiple Blake Griffin articles quoting him that he had no interest in coming to OU before Jeff Capel arrived...and yes, posted on this very website for all to see. I guess we'll have to get him to put it on YouTube for those who can't comprehend what he means by "I had no interest in coming to OU prior to Jeff Capel's arrival."

Completely and utterly false.

Facts:

1. Blake nearly committed to OU while Kelvin was at OU

2. Taylor actually talked him out of it, because he wasn't sure himself if he was going to come back, as he struggled to accept his role and clashed some with Kelvin

3. Taylor told himself he would come back for his sophomore year, (capel's first year) and then decide how he felt then

4. After Kelvin left, Blake was less and less into Oklahoma, especially given Taylor wasn't sure what he was going to do

5. Moving into Taylor's soph year (really offseason after frosh year after kelvin left and Capel came in) him and Capel developed a great rapport and Taylor began re-selling Blake on the idea of joining him at OU.

6. Blake may or may not have come to OU if Taylor decided he wanted to transfer.

7. Blake and Kelvin communicate often, and Blake lobbied hard for Kelvin to come and coach the Clippers last year.

The most important fact is fact #1, given you say he had "no interest." You can argue these facts until you are blue in the face, making snide comments about youtube, but just know that you are wrong.

The quote was that he was going to commit to Sampson, but that Taylor talked him out of it when he said he wasn't sure if he would be sticking around.

The idea that Blake had no interest in OU if Sampson was there is completely apocryphal.

edit: oops, sorry posted while playmakr was editing. what playmakr said

Tony do you also need a youtube video to comprehend? :ez-laugh:

Who cares.
Facts: Sampson is gone; blake came here to play for capel; reynolds and james never came here; sampson left to go to a place where he could win championships(his words not mine); sampson put 2 programs on the ncaa crapper. Sampson got kicked out of college basketball.

It's just a discussion, in which people can be entitled to their opinions, but not their own facts.

That is not true. I have read this site since it's inception and I have never seen a quote to Blake. In fact I have never even seen the article with a link or author. I never saw the article when it was printed. Regardless the article does not remotely say Blake was not coming to OU.

Ultimately, though, it is the idea of playing for Capel that excited Blake Griffin enough to make him orally commit to Oklahoma. When asked if he would have committed if Kelvin Sampson was still in Norman, Blake was hesitant.

“I’m not sure,” he said. “I like Coach Sampson, don’t get me wrong, it’s just a little different with Coach Capel. I probably would rather play Coach Capel’s style. He wants his players to actually be players, not just play a position. He wants his big men to be able to handle the ball and shoot. And he loves to run.”

And he loves to run.”

That part makes me laugh. We played a little faster Blake's soph year, but the other four, probably VERY comparable to Kelvin's pace.

I think that info is on Ken Pom's site. I may try to look it up later.
