As long as he is there the Bears will continue to build. There is no reason he doesn't turn them into the Duke of the Southwest.

I can see some big alums plunking down cash for a sweet arena. Baylor should ignore football which they will always suck at and focus 100% on basketball.

That is what SMU should have done when they went and blew $100 million on their football stadium with no hope of success.

So win 30 games year in and year out, multiple national titles, and be one of the premiere programs in the country?

At this point, you're reaching at best.

Baylor will probably never be this good again. If they didn't have Udoh they probably would have been one and done this year.

All of the teams Baylor has played in the tournament have been double digit seeds. And the lowest seem they played gave them a good game. Baylor got a great bracket.

With Scott Drew being able to get recruits like Perry Jones you don't think they'll be able to attain this level ever again?

Agreed. I don't think they'll be the perennial program Boca is suggesting, but that doesn't mean they can't ever be this good again, either. Drew has this program humming.

it would be STUPID to say Baylor won't be good again. They have been progressing to this point for a few years now.

This isn't some sort of fluke. Give them their due and just resolve to equal or better them.

Um, it's also pretty stupid to compare them to Duke.

He was a huge project and he worked his tail off, ala Blake Griffen. I love the dude and hope he makes tons of money. I also hope he always lists his alma mater as Edmond Santa Fe.

It's hard to say he was a project but then OU takes Orlando Allen, Kyle Cannon, and Ryan Wright. Maybe this is why Capel is taking a risk on Tyler Neal.

This whole Drew take over has been built around good ball handling and shooting. Next year they take a step back from the pg position and if dunn leaves it hurts the teams shooting. Good freshman forwards can't impact the game nearly as much if the guards have trouble getting them the ball (GTech style). Walton and Ellis haven't shown much.

He wasn't a project but at the same time don't compare him to Blake, not even the work they put in. Blake is on another level than most at the work he puts in.

We were in on Udoh but not sure why we didn't land him. He was exactly what we needed this year.

Baylor has a long way to go to be compared to Duke. Scott Drew took over a much tougher situation than Coach K took over at Duke in the early 80s. Duke had been a national title contender with Mike Gminski and Gene Banks prior to Coach K. Baylor was an unmitigated disaster when Drew took it over.

What he has done there has been remarkable. But he has a lot going for him- location; commitment from Baylor to facilities; great conference; the freedom to build it the way he wanted to and the patience to allow him some growing pains.

Baylor has some big money donors who love basketball. I expect that Drew will be paid top 15 in the nation money and will stay at Baylor. He's a great fit for the school. And what he has built is his baby. I don't know if he will have the success of a Coach K. He's a totally different personality. Drew has more in common with a guy like John Wooden than Coach K from a personality standpoint.

They will not fade into oblivion though. They will miss Carter and Lomers much more than people will think. But AJ Walton is going to be a terrific player for Baylor. Great on the ball defender and knows how to distribute. Having Tweety mentor him is going to pay huge dividends for AJ.

Ekpe will likely go pro and they will miss him. But the cupboard is not bare. They have Cory Jefferson, Anthony Jones, Perry Jones, Dragan Sekelja and Quincy Acy. These are all players with tremendous physical skills and a desire to work hard and improve.

Baylor will get either Quincy Miller or LeBryan Nash for 2011- both are top 10 in the nation types. They should be able to maintain consistent NCAA tournament teams going forward.

I will be very surprised if Baylor gets Nash, he really seems like OSU's to lose at this point assuming Ford doesn't take a job on the east coast.

I hope Baylor beats Duke. Dukie V is coming out of retirement and it's annoying.

I just skimmed the responses...but something that is amazing to me is what he was able to do after this program basically had to start over from scratch...

One season not even getting to play until conference season...

To be able to recruit and build this program as fast as he has after that is amazing, even if you question his coaching or recruiting methods...

Duke? i dont know, but he doesnt seem to be slowing down...more like gaining momentum...

Got to give Drew some credit. The biggest difference I see in Baylor this season is that he's gotten his guys to play better defense. I'll admit that I'm one of those people who thought Drew was a joke, but I'm eating Crow now. And, I have Baylor in my Final Four this season. I see no reason why Baylor won't continue to maintain a solid program with Drew at the helm. Don't think they'll be Duke, but very solid. Also, unless something crazy happens, I see Nash going to OSU. But my hat is off to Drew for his accomplishments. It's a lot easier to pull for Baylor than it is the Kansas teams.....

Pump the brakes.

Why do people want to crown a guy the next Coach K after 1 good season? Baylor finished the conference on a 2-11 run last year. They missed the NCAA tourney last year with 3 seniors starting who were pretty dang good.

Coach Wooden and Drew shouldn't ever be mentioned in the same sentence. The only thing they have in common is they both are short.

Baylor has benefited by getting a great draw close to home and playing the worse possible seed so far. There is more evidence to believe they will continue to under perform than have years like this one.
