Unveiled his 68 best teams.
OU #17
In front of OU:
- WVU (beat them)
- Texas (beat them)
- Alabama (beat them)
- Houston (who has played nobody and lost to East Carolina)
- Michigan (who hasn't played in a month)
I wouldn't sweat it. The good folks over at Bracket Matrix have tabulated the fields of 95 different bracketologists. Their survey has us as the highest-rated 5-seed.....which means, 17th!Unveiled his 68 best teams.

I read the entire article and can provide some context. He's not only rating teams based upon their accomplishments/metrics, but also based upon his subjective view of a team's "ceiling". From his comments about OU, I think he feels that this team is close to "maxing out" because of not having any real superstar. The "sum of the parts" would probably be an accurate representation of how he feels about OU. But I thought he was fairly complimentary in his write-up.
Many times, Bilas comes off as an arrogant prick (a Dukie), but he is one of the few color commentators that I can withstand to listen to.
not a bilas fan at all....but I'm not too freaked out about our ranking. We haven't played the 2nd game of wv otr ut. Both will be tough.
bama...since getting beat by mu might have dropped some.
Michigan and Houston...meh.
Can't believe Drake at 18-1 aren't ranked at all...:ez-roll:
I like our team, they had a nice def run there but kind of dropped the ball vs isu...but still a win. I'm just not sure we are top 10...I like the 15-20 range..but we'll see how the rest of the season goes. Still have tough games left.
See how we finish.. I have high hopes, but at same time we have some dudes that are playing way above their expectations. Basically we look like an average team to the outside world that is getting lucky with some big wins.
I still have my worries with Kuath and Manek disappearing in big games, but our guards are so good right now. Hoping for a 3/4 seed and a sweet 16/elite 8 run.
I agree with all that except throwing ourselves on our sword over the ISU game. We were a last-second three away from winning by double digits. We didn't play badly on Saturday -- the ONLY reason it was close was that ISU was unconscious from deep. We shot 55% in that game.
We don't have to apologize for that win. Bama beat South Carolina by three tonight. WVU beat ISU by just four a few days ago. texas squeaked by against KSU tonight. A win's a win, and virtually every team in the country (with a couple of obvious exceptions) has had some close calls.
If #12 in the country is average to the outside world... I’ll take it.

Looks like he is being more than fair to us
If Bilas is looking at the full picture of each team's season and ranking them based on that picture, then I agree. We're probably 15-20.
But in the last 6 weeks, we've played like a top 10 team. Keep in mind that we were in the 40s at both Ken Pom and Jeff Sagarin at Christmas. We're now sitting right at 20 in both lists. That is almost impossible to rise that far at this point in the season.
Sagarin has our recent play ranked at #10 nationally.

I always think it’s funny when people get worked up about polls or how one person ranks teams, but for everyone who was so upset about this a few weeks ago, I’d suggest looking at his current list. He now has us 15 ... two spots better than we were in the list he put out a while back. Agree or disagree, one thing it shows is that he is smart enough not to overreact to the past two weeks. For the same reason, he also didn’t drop Ohio State far. Every year come Selection Sunday, we have so many posters who focus almost entirely on what has happened down the stretch, but the actual committee, plus media members like Bilas, do a much better job at looking at the season as a whole.
