GAME 34 - ROUND 1 - OKLAHOMA (20-13) vs UCONN (24-10) 8:25pm CST on TNT

Watched a lot of games this weekend and missed layups, drive to the basket misses seemed to be the norm. Like players had never practiced shooting
layups. Perhaps in HS the top kids just overwhelm most other players with their superior athletic ability and forget about honing their basic skills.

Missing uncontested layups I'd agree with you....but contested layups/defended drives aren't simple. I will say this....there are a ton of kids playing on "travel teams" that are getting almost no real skill work/fundamentals and they play street ball. Unfortunately (and this is my opinion) a lot of "coaches" being hired at the college level are coming out of the AAU ranks for their recruiting connections not their coaching ability. I've thought this for years. That bleeds down to the HS level some too in some places. Therefore, fundamentals are not stressed as much I don't feel like.

I'm sure it depends on areas you live in to an extent.

It shows at the NBA level. There are top players in the NBA who don't have good fundamentals, but they overwhelm with their athleticism. I watch every night and see top players who can barely use their non-dominant hands to finish a layup or dribble out of pressure.

Not sure how you could have watched our game and thought, man UConn is pretty good!

We literally shot ourselves out of an easy 1st round win. It was not bc of excellent UConn defense either, we missed tons of open looks. 2nd worst shooting game of the season.

That is not the same as UConn is much better. We played all those great teams in the SEC already.

FLA is laying an egg right now, we will see how they finish.

I see your point, but you almost had to expect the 2-time defending champs to come out and play better. They heard everyone saying they would lose by 40, etc.... they have guys who are battle-tested. Historically a lot of good teams struggle in round 1. I think that's why the survive and advance slogan became so popular. I thought Florida would handle them pretty easily, but I know defending champs often go out swinging....

Part of why UConn wasn’t great vs OU is they were taken out of what they wanted to do pretty consistently on the offensive end. Florida let them do pretty much whatever they wanted today both in the half court and in controlling pace. They just had the best player on the court in the end.

Funny how those teams with a Closer seem to pull out games they struggled in. ;) ;) ;)

Same way you could have watched that game and not admitted PM coached a good game.

It's easier to say ""UCONN sucks" and then PM is mediocre.

It was by far the best game plan Moser has come up with in a big game and should have resulted in a win. If OU just went shot for shot UConn’s talent dwarfs this team.

Their size played a part in the rushed 3s and missed layups, they definitely got in our head which is a bit sad. It shouldn’t have been anything new playing in the SEC.
