Raegan Beers first team All SEC as voted on by the coaches. Chaves second team. Chaves WAS NOT freshman of the year despite all the freshman of the week awards. FARCE!

Chavez got robbed. Set the record for freshman of the week awards and don’t win freshman of the year?

Hope this motivates her to get even better.

That's so ridiculous it's funny. Galvan was Freshman of the Week 5 times. Obviously, different people vote for FoY than FoW.

This is what AI says about who votes on FoW:

The SEC Freshman of the Week award for women's basketball is determined by the Southeastern Conference office (the league office) based on weekly performances, often announced alongside other league awards.

Key details regarding the selection process:
  • Selection Authority: The conference office reviews nominations and weekly statistics to select the recipient.
  • Voting for Postseason: While weekly awards are announced by the league office, the SEC head coaches vote on the annual postseason awards, which include the SEC Freshman of the Year and the All-Freshman Team.
  • Voting Constraints: Coaches are not permitted to vote for their own player

Galvan is great but that is SHOCKING to me -- especially since it's voted on by the coaches.

Hopefully this lights a fire under Aaliyah to ball out in the conference tournament.

what an absolute joke! how can someone win the weekly award a record EIGHT times and not win FOY???!! Galvan wasn't even good enough to make either of the 1st or 2nd teams, but Chavez was, so was this a pity award for Galvan? Goes to show you these awards are so political and not always reflective of the best players.

Do we think this screws her for FOY award overall? Surely not, because different voters?

yeah, thankfully that's up to different voters. I mean, Chavez is the only freshman on the 20 players being considered for POY, so idk how any other freshman could beat her out for that award.

I think National FOY is a 2-person race between Aaliyah and Jazzy Davidson from USC. Jazzy winning would be understandable IMO. She's had a great year and is the primary reason USC is competitive.

Also interesting that Vandy swept SEC FOY, POY and COY. I know they are a GREAT story but that does not reflect how incredible and deep the SEC has been this season!

yeah, i think that's where politics comes in. can't give it to Dawn every year so let's give it to the person whose team has improved the most since last season, which might not even be Vandy. I will say that Galvan has made a bigger impact to their team than Chavez has made to ours, so i can somewhat see how she won FOY, but why wouldn't she win more weekly awards then? idk

One thing i know is that JB had better get off her rear end and scour the transfer portal for 2-3 impactful players before next season, or we're going to drop massively. Even if we keep every player from this year's roster.

Your right...she's just sitting on her rear end. How about you get off your rear end and throw some money into the program....thats what you need to get kids out of the portal.

I don’t think she’s ever been sitting on her hands. They’ve just not closed the deals. Being finalists to some very good recruits, but not landing. Hoping the wide open roster helps this year. Could temp a good big sitting to switch.

Beers and Verhulst are probably the 2 biggest transfers in program history. Jennie did that.

She also got Aubrey Joens, Lexy Keys, Kennady Tucker, etc.

This year, we didn't add anyone through the portal... but we were very close to getting Kneepkins, who ultimately chose UCLA (OU and UCLA were the two best situations she could have possibly transferred to. UCLA is clearly an enticing choice and that's worked out for her). It was surely tricky to convince very high-performing players to come here as our starting 5 was basically set (aside from possibly Vann) and anyone who would come here would want to start.

All of that can be true and more. I fully believe we didn’t have the funding this year to compete. But we should this upcoming season.

IMO, beers should be first team, peyton second team and chavaz second team and freshman of the year. Chavez was robbed.

Completely agree with this! Peyton’s 3s fell off this year but she was snubbed from second team. I can only hope these ladies find the snubbing of P and A as motivation to completely ball out in the last two runs. Prove it to the voters that got it wrong.
