"I'm not in panic mode yet, but I'm very concerned," Self said. "I believe that Kansas will be OK no matter what, but for us to continue to compete at the level where we've been competing, and recruit at that level, I really believe that we need to be aligned with a BCS conference. It would be very disappointing to me if a team that's won three national championships, and is one of the three winningest programs in college basketball, wouldn't be a part of a BCS conference.

Interesting scenario.
KU gets left in the cold.
Izzo leaves to coach Lebron.
Self goes to Michigan State.

KU will be fine in basketball, and honestly don't see them declining at all.

Just look at Memphis: Signed the #1 class in the country, and have been thriving on the court over the last few seasons. If Memphis can do it, then KU definitely can.

There's more to life than basketball, Bill.

According to Cheno, KU basketball will not miss a beat. It won't be long before Bill skips out on KU. You can't blame him. Unless KU becomes part of a Big East/ACC merger, Jayhawk basketball is finished, as we know it.

I just want to know if Rick Barnes is going to be able to prepare his guys for the NBA as well in the Pac-16

Somebody will pick up Kansas... Put them in the Mountain West along with KSU, Boise State, and Fresno State and make it a BCS league.

If the Big 10 eventually adds Rutgers, as some have speculated, look for the Big East's #1 target to be Kansas. The Big East is rare in the fact that quite a bit, if not a majority, of it's revenue comes from basketball rather than football. And there would be no bigger fish available than KU basketball. Kansas in the Big East would only strengthen an already incredible basketball conference.

I think they will. And I think Lew will get us in a good conference. Have two years to figure it out.

Lew? lol If Bill takes the Michigan State job, Lew can be the AD and the Coach.

Why would Self take the Michigan State job. It's hilarious how many degrees of separation a few of you are going to annoint the downfall of the mighty kingdom known as KU basketball. And regardless when Larry Brown left our league cohorts annointed the fall of KU. Then Roy left and it was going to be the end. If Bill ever leaves coaches will be lining up at the door.

I believe KU basketball will get stronger because they will consistently go 35-2 or 38-1 like Memphis, due to a lower level of competition. I predict that the other sports KU participates in will be severely damaged, especially football.

Yeah but you are using common sense. :woot

Sid the first sentence of Bill's comment you are referring to is...."I believe that Kansas will be OK no matter what," ...yet you already have NCHCBS taking a job that isn't even open. LOL. As I said, a few of you want the downfall of the Roman Empire so bad you can't even think straight. If all this goes down you'll see Lew Perkins, Turner Gill and Bill Self campaigning for a BCS conference for the next 2 years. And it will come. If not, like StatGeek said KU basketball will be fine but all other KU sports will suffer.
KU basketball will continue to recruit well because they have a fanbase that is passionate about basketball.
KU has 10x times the tradition of Memphis and they have the #1 class in the country or right there.

So Bill Self isn't using common sense, got it.

No, he's working on getting KU in a BCS conference. Lew will be doing the same. They will work hard at it.

But I guess your dream scenario of KU not getting into a BCS conference over the next two years if the Big 12 disbands, Izzo goes to coach the Cavs despite already turning down the Bulls this year and reports that Byron Scott/Cavs talks are heating up and Bill Self leaves KU to coach at Michigan St are much more plausible. :facepalm

Regardless if he left or not KU Hoops will be fine. Just like when Larry Legend left. Just like when Roy left.
