Shaka Smart is a no-brainer people...

Since his squad is in the FF, it would be Monday at the soones that we could hire him.

Half the members on this board will die of heart attacks if Joe C "makes" them wait another 5-7 days before he lets them know who he has hired.

See chewy's update.

Yep, posted this on rivals but will do so here as well:

I'm sorry but I simply don't understand the infatuation with Smart. Some team is going to come in and completely overpay for a decent coach.

They have made a HELL of a run through the tournament, but it's because they are hot, and shooting lights out. Don't completely discredit the regular season. They play in a bad conference, and didn't do all that well in it, so bad that everyone saying them making it was a complete joke for the tournament. They have simply used that as motivation and are now shooting lights out.

On the season they shot around 34% from 3, and the tourny? ~45%. That's not his ability to coach, that's just getting hot. Don't forget that his coaching ability got them a mediocre record and shouldn't have even made the tourny and was a 30+ game sample, not 5 games.

Agree, but 10-0 in post season is PERFECT. He maybe a decent coach on a hell of run, or it may be the beginning of something awesome. He is in my second to top 5 list.

Some of you have no basketball knowledge whatsoever! Shaka Is obviously a good coach! Idont care how many ugly losses he has, he's in the final four and beat some very good teams to get there! He knows what he's doing I would be glad to have him!

We will never get brad Stevens he's been tithe final four two years in a row right now butler is a ether job!

So a mediocre coach in a bad conference will suddenly be awesome in the Big 12 against BCG, Barnes, Self, etc? Wow.

Then how did a mediocre coach from a bad conference win 5 games to get to the final four and in the process beat four better seeded teams and all but one by double digits? I think I want some of that. Is he as good as he ever will be? I don't think so. He will get even better.

It's called hot shooting. They barely made the tourney and were incredibly mediocre in a poor conference. I'll take body of work over five games, thank you.

Best low major? Is that like most successful OSU grad?

Boone Pickens is worth a couple billion, so...

And the CAA tied for the most bids of a non-BCS conference with 3 (the Pac-10 and ACC only had 4 each). The CAA also has the best winning percentage of any non-BCS conference (so far) in the Tournament and better record than either the Big 12 or Big East.

this is an argument not even worth having since you have no clue about his style of play anyway. you just keep talking out of your behind.

First Shaka will likely go to NC State, but good let them have him. I'll take the guy who recruited his team and has turned Alabama into a relevant basketball school and that being ANTHONY GRANT.

I don't think Shaka Smart would jump in here based on the Jeff Capel experience.

He might go to NC State but I think he's smart enough to know that's a tough gig in a tough neighborhood and not quite right for the type of players he'd best work with.

To me, his best opportunity and ideal coaching spot is Marquette. It's a private school in his home state. He can attract smart players and compete in the Big East.

Which brings me back to Joe and Buzz. Here's a deal that can be brokered and if Joe C can pull it off, he'd be the greatest A.D. to ever pose with a championship trophy: Convince Shaka to go back home to Marquette for $ 1.8 million and then Marquette fore goes their buyout demands and releases Buzz to head back to the Southwest where we pay him $ 1.8 to $ 2 and everyone's happy.

What really gets Marquette excited is when VCU beats Marquette's hated rival Connecticut. All the dominoes fall when that happens.

Dude how many times do I have to tell you people the CAA is a good basketball conference. They are not low major, they are one of the top mid-major conferences in the country. ODU, GMU and VCU compete with BCS teams yearly and more than hold their own. UNCW was up there as well until Brad Brownell (Clemson) left a few years ago. VCU has more fans show up to their games than we do.

Kansas beat plenty a team this year, but they got out toughed by VCU. It hasn't been just hot shooting, they are going at big time schools and dominating. I'm not sold on Shaka being a great coach yet, he has a lot to learn. On VCU message boards last year and this year many wanted him gone, thought he was a mistake hire and trashed him routinely. That was before they made the tourney and went on an awesome run with these players and the world loves him. Buyer beware.
