Shaka to Texass?

Most people on here believe we saw what happens when you couple great recruiting without the coaching prowess, and at the same school too.

What coach have we had that was a great recruiter but couldn't coach?

I know we recently had one who couldn't recruit anything but team cancers, brothers of current players, and stiffs who can't play but he couldn't coach either.

If I were an AD, and wanted a good young coach, Archie Miller would be my choice, but I like Shaka too.

agreed. Coaching is in that family's blood. Brother has been on the doorstep of final fours lately and has a great thing going at Zona, could see Archie having similar success at UT. Glad no rumors have come out of them persuing him.

Smart generally has good backcourts, that is one thing Barnes consistently struggled with over the past few years.

He is going to right the UT ship and it will be at the expense of another Big XII school.

I'll go on record right now. Barnes will have more success at Tennessee than Smart will have at Texas.

Be interesting to see how that style of play goes over the in the Big 12. I'm not sure he'll keep playing that same way. You get better talent, you don't need a gimmick system as much, and the 1-2 year NBA guys prob won't want to play that way.

I think it'll probably be a decent hire for them, but I don't know that it scares me at all.

I agree with this. He is solid, but there are people who could get that job that would absolutely scare me. He is not one. I will be happy if they don't get Miller or someone of that caliber.

Biggest problem at UT isn't the Barnes, Smart, whomever...it's Patterson.

Patterson was a very curious hire to me. He had the feel of someone who was able to talk them into hiring him instead of being someone ut pursued necessarily. Seems slippery to me and his resume is just not very impressive at all.

I seem to remember reading a similar article when Patterson was first hired at UT. Sounds like a perfect fit for the Horns.

100,000% correct. The guy is a nut job, as long as he is there, we should dominate them in sports. Even if a coach starts being successful, give it time and he will meddle in somewhere and tick them off.
