Shaya Kellogg Team MVP

That "cheerleaders" must be very important!

:facepalm

More importantly, what is the "message" being sent to current players and future recruits????

I don't get it....

It was a team vote, so don't read too much into it. But that ruins the fun for some of you who are always looking for the "negative."

It tells me first, the kids have fun, second, their priorities are on team first and individual awards are not that important to them.

Since it's a team vote, it tells me that the players see the value that Shaya brings to the team.

Since it was brought up at all, it says the fans don't know that much about Shaya.

Let the girls have their fun. It's a team award.

Contributions aren't always what happens on the floor twice a week. Maybe it was about her counsel and support, her hard work in practice, her efforts to cheer others on and accomplish stuff by setting an example. Maybe it was because of her friendship and even-handed behavior.

Perhaps, Shaya, in her own way, was the best "player" and leader on the team. Some might say that's indicative of something and it might be -- but it doesn't have to be a negative thing.

God knows this team this year didn't have any kind of leadership when they were on court this season, so it wouldn't surprise me that someone not good enough to make it to the floor contributed seriously behind the scenes.

All valid possibilities perhaps likely possibilities.

Please be for real. It just means that we didn't have a "go to" player like in years past, which is very much related to what Sherri was talking about - the need for someone to step up.

Some of you will sugarcoat anything. SMH.

I don't sugar coat anything I think or say here. There's more to being an MVP than your stats.

But it also could be a signal to what's wrong with this team.

Just let Shaya have her moment and let the girls and coaches honor their teammate.

The team made its selection based on their criteria. What are the criteria that they would use to determine a most valuable player? What is most important to them?

If you have seen the Toby Rowland Shows, this should have been no surprise. It has been clear that the team had a very high regard for Shaya.

I'm not on the team. I don't know what is important to them. I suspect that it is clear enough to them to establish a consensus. Does it have to do with winning? Perhaps, it is something about the approach to the rest of their lives. Somewhere in this is a profound statement that we should all begin to try to understand. They are not confused. We are.

I am really happy they are having such a nice time. My wife and I saw Kellog sitting by herself at a softball game. She seems like a nice person and it was good to see her supporting the softball team.

Agree. I thought Kellogg might wanting to go into coaching, but I think she is planning to be a nurse. Manning and Little both say they want to be a coach.

I thought I heard somewhere she's going to law school.

I think it is Wyatt who is going into nursing. My bad. Think Kellogg would still be a good coach.

As a former coach, I know what it tells me.
1) the players respect her.
2) nobody else was deserving.
3) the season was a disappointment
4) none of the key players performedat the level expected.

I couldn't agree more.
