Shaya Kellogg Team MVP

As a former coach, I know what it tells me.
1) the players respect her.
2) nobody else was deserving.
3) the season was a disappointment
4) none of the key players performedat the level expected.

I couldn't agree more.

I think you're on to something.....If the team had won the NC or gone deep in the tournament, would Shaya have been the MVP? And who was the leader of last years team?? There wasn't a dominant player on the team....someone you could depend on to get 15 points or eight rebounds game in, game out.

The big question to me is what does the administration and Sherri want for their women's basketball team??? Having very few or zero off the court problems is nice, but what is the number one priority? Very successful team or very well-behaved team. I know they aren't mutually exclusive, but sometimes a coach has to take a chance on a player. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. If you don't want to take the chance, it really limits your chances at a great team.

Glad you didn't coach my kids.

I'd hoped that pointing out the MVP vote belonged to the players and not Sherri, it would head off the usual negativity. But I really should have known better. The trashing of Kellogg's special honor was inevitable on this site.

You got that right! This is amazing!

What's even worse is these comments are coming from all these Hall of Famers!!!

Tells me that the coaching staff must have put names in a hat and drew one out.

Team MVP normally goes to a player who most fans wouldn't expect to get the award... Kellogg tho never a star or starter on the team has been a overall good kid who stuck it out at OU when she couldn't even get on the court, good for her!

You are probably right -- and that the coaches didn't think anyone else was deserving.

Some people think being negative makes them sound like an expert.

Those are often the same people, and not just in the OU fan base, who also invent a few facts that just aren't there. Heck, I remember in my Albuquerque days that people were so in love with being naysayers that they'd argue with sports talk hosts that a semi-close win was "really a loss," and the four-time all-league center/power forward was really a bum despite overwhelming numeric evidence to the contrary.

As I said, I don't know how many posts before. Let the girls have their fun. It's their deal and the coaches. Shaya was probably the smartest basketball mind on the team or something but just didn't have the athletic skill to implement it -- or she was a great teammate.

I'm happy for her and this thread should now be closed.
