Sherri To Coach USA At World University Games

WOW! It speaks volumes to look at her assistant coaches: Brian Giorgis, who admires Sherri very much, and Coquese Washington, big timer (and former lawyer, if I'm not mistaken) at Penn State. Congrats, Sherri!

I'm really happy for Sherri, but deep down I kinda wish she had a little less extra-cirruicular activities and spent more time on the recruiting trail. A very short bench has become the norm instead of the exception.

That being said, I sure wish her the best. I'll bet it's a really exciting team to coach.

Exposure like this enhances the possibilities of getting the type of player that some think is necessary.

Great honor for Sherri!

What age group is that tournament?

Organized by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and held every other year, the World University Games is a multi-sport competition open to men and women who are between the ages of 17 and 24 (born Jan. 1, 1989 through Dec. 31, 1995).

With four out to injury you have a short bench if you recruit 24/7/52

Very few schools have 15 on scholarship, for whatever reason. Most are in the 12-13 range and we were at 12 before the 4 injuries.

It helps if you have a full roster of 15 scholarship players to begin with...even with 4 out you sill have a roster of 11. Dunno, has Sherri ever had a full roster? Next year OU loses 4 and has signed 3, i.e. the roster is still getting even smaller at only 11 on scholarship. 11 scholarship players is enough if everyone is lucky to be injury free, but how often does any team escape without some type of injury? Injury-wise, OU had really bad luck last year (but not as bad as KSU) ... hopefully it will be much better next season.

It's a balancing act, pure and simple. As stated, very few schools maintain a 15 scholarship roster, for a simple reason: Good players want to play. With a full roster, there is bound to be added discontent, and, as in football, players looking to transfer elsewhere so that they can get additional PT.

This is one of those years that it would have been nice to have had 14 players on the roster, though.

I strongly suspect Sherri would like to have 14 players on the roster but she recruited several girls lately who signed with other teams.
