Shoni Schimmel

Thanks Mac, great find! You know, I have read about her on Hoopgurlz but noticed she is a point guard and didn't figure that Sherri would be looking for another point guard. I really like her passing skills.

Great job Mac. I hope our Native American heritage will lean her our way.

I think you can certainly make her another off guard addition. There will be times that we can put 3 or 4 guard sets in a game depending on what the defense gives us. Could you imagine spreading the floor with Danielle, Whitney, Aaryn, and Shoni/Morgan, with either Jo or Nicole in the middle. I wouldn't stay in it long, but the three's could rain. If Morgan can contribute we finally have some superior outside threats. Never can have enough quality shooters.

watching the videos of Shoni on Google, she rarely shoots from behind the three point line. She tends to shoot about four feet behind the three point line, mostly with a set shot motion.

She is a shooting guard, according to the HoopGurlz bio. Her sister, also a prospect, is the point guard for the team. She is the shooter. Her sister is supposedly the defender and quicker.

Just looking at the videos, it is apparent that she has adequate foot speed, but isn't a burner. That would spell two-guard at OU and most elite schools, and I'd imagine that's where she sees herself in college. From what I've read she can really throw down the rock, and boy could we use that at OU.

I hope she was watching the game on Monday...

Speaking of the Sooners, it's looking like we should be OK at the guard and hopefully wing positions next year, but we are likely to be challenged in the frontcourt. I hope Joanna and Lyndsey really work hard during the offseason, because their improvement could have a big impact on the team.

I have to agree with you, syb. If there were any room on the Sooner's coaching staff, I would love to see someone like Shoni's mother being an addition. Also, it would be great to have Shoni at OU. As a card-carrying Chickasaw, I would love to see a talented Native American on our team. I was a BIG fan of Jenna & really disappointed in the way things turned out with her. I still maintain that she was a great PG & I wish things would have worked out better between OU & her.

On the other hand, does Shoni have any interest in OU? The only thing I got from the story was that she had recieved a letter from the Sooners - not that she was interested in leaving the left coast for 4 years. I would love to see her want to come to Norman, but I haven't seen any interest on her part . . .

Very interesting video! It might have helped sign her if things would have worked out differently with Jenna.

I really like her passing skills and her ability to create her own shot. I like the way to pushes the defender back a step or two to create space then jumps backs a step before releasing the shot. It's pretty easy to tell she has a high basketball IQ along with some nifty ball handling skills. She would be a perfect shooting guard in our offense. Guards who can shoot it from deep as well as take it to the rack or not that common.

We have not had a player with those passing skills since Stacey. Very impressive court vision.

Well, with you being a card carrying Chickasaw and me a card carrying Potawatomi, maybe we can sit down with her and pass the pipe and convince her to come.;) I was a big fan of Jenna too. Glad she has found her way back at Lamar.

Can I join the party too? I'm a card carrying Comanche (Jenna's tribe also). :woot

As for Shoni's "real" interest, I would say that the video OU was enough of a presence in her mind for her to mention it in her interview. If she wasn't looking at OU, she wouldn't have said OU. Also, in the article on her, OU is also mentioned. That means, somewhere, the author was given OU as a team of interest.

These may seem like random mentions, however, there are more than one and we at least have to be in her mind for it to come out of her mouth.

That is very encouraging for me.

I think you are right...I think there is more than a passing interest on her part toward OU.

Absolutely, I think we may have just closed the deal. Three different tribes with open arms, how could we miss. Now all we have to do is get her to Red Earth and she will never leave.:dance005:

I have to agree, I don't think OU is a passing fancy. It looks like she has a very close knit family and it might be tough to leave the west coast, but her dad is all for her going east and playing in a tougher environment. With the Sooners talking about the family atmosphere around the women's basketball program, if she can get here for an official visit, maybe we can get that signature on the dotted line. I'll start practicing my "OU basketball scholarship dance", full headress and all:D

Y'all should write her a letter and send it to her. =) I have no card, so I can't really help you out.

I think Oklahoma is as Native American as it gets. I mean, c'mon, some of us still live in tepees! I think it might be hard to pull her away from the West coast, though.

I just like the fact that she's talking about OU, it shows that we have a chance, but my bet would be Rutgers (tho her style of play might not fit in there) or Oregon where she will be there go to player. But if OU can get a Visit out of her then I really like our chances.

As someone else said, I would like our chances even more if Sherri had an opening and hired her mother. That lady is very passionate about basketball as well as making sure her children succeed in life.
