Shoni Schimmel

I don't usually get excited until they sign with OU. I would like to think that she is the real deal and would like to come to OU. I would love to see her on the court with Whitney, more than anyone else.

I was really impressed with the urgency of her mother.

If I may add, who would of thought we would have gotten two young ladies out of California, or an unbelievable point guard too. Stacy H. found out the twins loved to text message and text them all the time.

Just for the record, that's not exactly correct. (Keeping in mind that 5 years ago, texting was something done on computers, not phones) a coach initiating a text message exchange would have constituted an illegal contact. However, if the coach was online and waiting when she thought the recruit might initiate an exchange........

Well, with you being a card carrying Chickasaw and me a card carrying Potawatomi, maybe we can sit down with her and pass the pipe and convince her to come.;) I was a big fan of Jenna too. Glad she has found her way back at Lamar.

Potawatomi, huh? I knew a woman when I lived in Seattle who was a Potawatomi and she was originally from our great state. Unfortunately, I see little chance of the Sooners successfully recruiting Shoni. Once you've lived on the west coast, it's pretty difficult to consider the midwest or southwest. Just a different culture, different enviroment and different landscapes. I would LOVE to see Shoni & her mother at OU, but I just don't think it's going to happen . . .

Since it seems she has an inside track to Shoni now, who knows. I am like Mac, at least we are on her radar, and if we can get her and Deanna, I am thinking you will always have fresh legs on the floor in your guard positions. This could be the start of a UCONN of the west, when you can go 10 deep and not have a drop off. It may be a little bit of a stretch but you have to start some where.

Speaking of UConn, their bench scored zero points against OU on Monday.

You could be correct, because Jan Ross and Ashley Paris could have mis-spoke and meant e-mailing on the computer, I'm just saying what they told me.

Text messaging did not become a violation in NCAA By Laws until August 1st of 2007. The committee voted on it in April of the same year, so it is possible that OU was not in violation prior to that in recruiting potential players.

CHEEZ N RICE!!! Really????

I guess I didn't catch your drift. If I offended somebody, I apollogize but I just don't understand your response - explanation ???

My amazement was with the "once you live on the west coast" comment. We've had 4 girls come to OU from California in recent years. Football players have come to OU from California, Omar Leary was from Portland. We don't recruit the west coast that much probably more from logistics more than anything. I'm sure you didn't mean anything derogatory but there are west coast athletes all the time that come to the midwest to attend school. It just sounded a little ridiculous to me in this day and age.

I email a reliable source About Shoni and he said the sooner were Recruiting her but have stopped because she doesn't have grades. He went on to say that OU is very happy with Aaryn Ellenberg, most of the time he's on the money be he has been wrong before. Shoni did take an official visit to Louisville so maybe OU has back off her but some school's hasn't. I think we'll have to wait and see what happens.

I hope we have not backed off of her. First, she still might qualify (Gant) and second, the worst thing is she would have to go to juco and then we might have a great chance of getting her then.

There are You Tube videos on her and her sister. :OUbball-logo:

So IBleed, you think I should have an "open teepee" at the double wide and invite her and the family and all our Native American friends for a hoe down? You of course would be invited, I can make you an honorable member of the tribe and with your smooth talkin, and a heapin servin of some Denko Darlin's we can definitely close the deal. What do ya think!!!!

Who's bringing the fry bread? (My mom makes the best in the LAND)

Apparently you missed the part where she grew up ON THE REZ. I don't really think it matters what part of the country it is, if you grew up on the rez, it is unlike anywhere else OFF the rez. West Coast rez is NOT the same as West Coast. At least in Oklahoma, the Native American culture is strong and positive. It is probably the closest place off a reservation to what she is used to. Unless you've been there, I know its hard to fully grasp how it is for these young rez kids.

Also, in the video I watched, her mother specifically said she wants her daughter to go east. She said they play faster ball and I believe she called it "just better".

If she doesn't have the grades, I hope that doesn't stop Sherri. If anything, I would hope Danielle Gant taught us a lesson. She made us pay for 4 years at TAMU.

At one time, OU had a program that enabled native americans to enter OU without that might not have satisfied the usual requirements due to the schools that they had attended. While this might not satisfy NCAA requirements, it might cover the situation as well as any school that might want to recruit her could have it covered.

So did she mean way east as in east coast or just east?

As I understood the video, anything east of the Rockies. Just kidding. Actually I think she was talking about any of the power conferences like the Big XII, Big East, ACC, or Southeastern. Could be wrong, but I think that is what her mom and dad meant.
