Shoni Schimmel

Given a choice between the two, I think Jelena would be of more immediate help to the Sooners, expecially since we are losing AT & Abi this year. From the picture, it also looks like she has more size than the girl from Vincent . . .

Bulk-wise, I would say definitely "yes", but I think Griffin has more height and length. I think Jelena would be a great get, because she would add size and depth to our post play, which I think is where we have the least amount of depth and experience.

Regarding Shoni, we have one parent that says she should go east while the other says she should remain on the west coast. Thus far, I have not heard one word from Shoni. I will be interested to see who or what prevails. It might even be the grandmother.

The grandmother wants them to move back to the rez, where she is.

I am wondering if the fact that Shoni's mother being her coach may be a slight negative. Being that familiar with the coach, and as most teens do, feeling entitled to "talk back" and/or defend your actions on the court, it may be a little difficult to adjust to having to keep quiet and do as you're told in D1.

Maybe my post was a little bit confusing. My intention was to clarify my probable choice between Jelena & Shoni . . .

I am from oklahoma but have relatives in Pendleton oregon. I have seen shoni play about 2 years ago and was blown away by her skills. She is hands down the best female i have ever seen. If you don't believe me ask anybody who has seen her. I would love for her to come to oklahoma and play for the sooners. She would have the biggest following because of all the native americans who live here. Native americans love basketball and most of them love the sooners too. She would become a legend like no other if she came to play for sheri coale. She would be great anywhere she chooses to play but wont have the giant following for those who don't know her...I read on here she is friends with ellenburg?..wow that should be a bonus!!!...PLEASE DON'T GIVE UP ON THE RECRUITING FOR SHONI!!!...THANKS

Yes, great first post! Please keep us appraised...

Thanks...I just wanted to share what i seen. I took my younger brother and his team to play in a spring break tourney in pendleton oregon in 2008. I have family from the umatilla reservation. We got to see her play during the week.We were stunned and jaw dropped at the things she could do. She is the female version of pistol pete. We met her after one of the games. She is not ****y or arrogant. She just smiles and thats about it. I am a sooner fan till death do us part! I never thought oklahoma had a chance to recruit her...I WAS WRONG. The natives love sam bradford and he barely has any native blood. I seen the fox news 12 from oregon with her video on it...AND SHE MENTIONS OKLAHOMA A POSSIBILITY....I had a chance to talk with her grandmother during one of the games and said to her dont you think it would be great for her to play at oklahoma? I thought it was a long shot then....KEEP UP THE INTEREST AND MAYBE SHE WILL TAKE NOTICE OF THIS...

As a card carrying Potawatomi and love my heritage, anything we natives can do to spur her interest, I'm in for the long haul. It would be great to get her to at least take an official and let her see all the history and hospitality we could show her. Just a chance to win her over. Shonni and Sam Bradford what a possible pair of Sooner graduates to honor our great university and our state. Getting ahead of my self, but it would be nice to have a Football and Basketball native americans to add to an all american list from OU. Hopeless wishful thinker.

No doubt, she would be a great fit in Sherri's offense. Let's keep hoping.

With her leading Louisville to the final four; thought it might be fun to resurrect this old thread....

Winning can help the family. I saw a Yahoo story that indicated that her parents got married just after they made it to the Final Four. They had been together for twenty-eight years and had eight children. I guess the Final Four gave mom a reason to accept the idea.

Shoni was a really good ball handler in high school but she is now a absolute magician with the basketball. Unreal!

She hasn't shot well in this game but don't be surprised if that changes in the second half.

I've had forgot her story how does a player with her skill escape the west coast teams and Stanford? Then ends up at a school like Louisville instead of Duke and others is there some unknown dirt to her recruitment? Just asking ....lol.

It was reported that Shoni considered OU before she picked Louisville.

Since none of us (I think) have any idea as to the vigor with which Sherri pursued Shoni, we are left to assume that the Louisville coach made a more positive impression on her (and her family, I guess).

It would appear that we got out-recruited. Too bad, the Schimmel sisters are a dynamite duo...

+1

Well congrats to her she is a great player, it just seems when OU goes up against the Stanford , Duke and other big boys for a player we come in second or third choice, even with in state players .

Well, that may be true, but L'ville does not qualify as a "big Boy"...
