Should OU accept the NIT invitation?

Looking back at the +/- thread, he had the fourth best number on the team through the Iowa State game on 1/8, which was the third of those four wins. From that point on, it cratered. The issue isn't whether he is capable of helping the team, it is whether he is willing to play the way he needs to play on a consistent basis. He has been here two years and in college four years. That is enough time for him to realize that he needs to be a defense-first guy, not a shooter or handler. I don't know if it is a net benefit to have him play a handful of very good games each season if the tradeoff is 15 or so games where he kills us with turnovers and decision making. Assuming he comes back as he has indicated he will, he needs to figure out how to play under control for 30+ games, not just occasionally.

Agree. He has to know his role and Moser sat him and got the point across. IMO.

We have no idea who is returning next year (other than a couple of players).

Out of who is currently playing games, here is what we know:
Groves x2, Hill - coming back pretty certainly
Cortes - most likely coming back
Noland - I personally think he is gone, but that obviously isn't certain
Gibson - no idea, but more games/practice isn't going to make his 24 y/o self better
Goldwire, Johnson, Chargois - not coming back

So at best, we're probably playing 4, maybe 5-6 guys that will be back next year. I'm assuming Harkless isn't going to be playing in the NIT. And out of those 4-6, a couple of them don't even play but 10-15 minutes a game.

Practices aren't going to be very intense for NIT prep. They just aren't. Especially for a team that lacks depth, needs to make changes, and quite frankly, looks tired. I haven't seen any improvement over the last month. They play well at times. They play poorly at times. I'd argue our on-court production has actually gotten worse. A week or two of half-effort practices, with some of the seniors probably looking out for themselves, isn't going to change a thing for next year, especially considering the fact that I think we need some pretty big changes made.

I get it. Some of you want the team to keep playing. Just doesn't mean that much to me. Couldn't tell you a single team that even played in the NIT last year, let alone won it. This team will check out mentally if they lose to Baylor and get left out. I just don't see the makeup (leadership) of a team that would rally together and do damage in the NIT. Maybe I'm wrong on that last part, but that really wouldn't change anything.

I disagree with nearly all of your points.

Man this is a tough to wrap my head around. Out of Goldwire, Chargois, & Johnson who has shown on the court they are just trying to get thiers & have checked out? Usually you only see that from freshmen going to the draft, like the kid from Duke last year & the dude from Memphis this year.

I didn't say we've seen it yet, I said that is what I would expect if the team played in the NIT. Mostly referencing Goldwire. I already think he is too big a part of our offense (look at how we played without him against KSU).

I think.....no, I know he has NBA aspirations. Those have probably already taken a hit with how this year has played out. I'm just saying, I could see him being some combination of "not interested" in the NIT games, and trying to "get his" to make one last showing.

I like Johnson, but he's already a shoot first guy. I believe the NIT would be his first tournament play, so his interest level may stay high.

My comment probably doesn't apply to Chargois much, though I do wonder how interested he'd be in NIT games.

Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree. The fact is, none of us know for sure. We all have our thoughts. I'm going to voice mine, regardless of rather they are popular around here or not.

Other than in the generic sense that every college player wants to play in the NBA, I have no idea how Goldwire would honestly think he is on any NBA radars. If the league expanded to 50 teams and doubled their rosters, he still wouldn't have a chance. I can't imagine that would be a factor if we were to accept an NIT bid.

Ok I gotcha, I'll just have to disagree.

Answer my question. Has this team gotten better over the last couple of weeks?

Unequivocally yes. This team was playing their best during those last five games.

Also, please keep in mind that every team in the country is practicing. Outside of injury/fatigue/suspension, every team is improving, so it doesn't always show up in the win column. Winning more games doesn't just mean you're getting better...it means your improving at a faster rate than the rest of the countr. Again, all teams are improving (minus a few caveats).

Been a long while since I paid any sort of attention to the NIT. Final four is still at MSG, right? And refresh my memory— if you are a 1 seed, does that mean that you’d potentially play 3 home games if you keep winning—and then off to NY? Or does the home team not necessarily need to be the higher seed?

well said

100% yes. You play as many games as you can. I hope OU hosts the first round in Norman, I’ll be there if they do.

Do nit games start Monday?

Looks like Tue/Wed with second round being Sat/Sun. Assuming OU is a 1 seed and keeps winning, round 3 would be at home the following Tue/Wed. So unless I’m reading this wrong, they could play up to 3 home games over a 7/8 day period.

guys were checked out for the NIT and it didnt mean anything to them, and won by 17.
