This is really good. First look inside the program in quite some time.
Good or bad as each reader and fan might see it, the story confirms what many thought.
Sherri is first interested in the person and basketball second. She sees the sport as an opportunity to not only win championships and to do her job, but to, more importantly, make better human beings.
The two are not exclusive, but they can frequently clash.
The story confirms what every OU fan should realize. Sherri is an outstanding person, a mentor, a teacher, a preacher, a role model and, also btw, a basketball coach.
That doesn't mean she's perfect as a person or a coach.
I do think her approach sometimes hurts the program in recruiting and signing top-quality players, but I laud it nonetheless.
Coaches like Sherri deserve to win it all and I hope she can find a way to do it, not just for OU and the program, but for her.
Whatever approach she has been using hasnt worked on upper echelon recruits. How much of a change is it to first consider the player's personality profile then her talent from what Sherri has been doing in her approach to recruiting? Maybe giving the personality profile precedence over talent. I'm not sure what the change amounts to.

I think you are wrong in how we've been doing it. I thought we made a change about 3 years ago to where we really concentrated on top 20 recruits. We were in on a lot of them, but didn't land any, and as a result maybe missed out on some of the next ones down. So now we are looking for program fit, which is what we used to do, and maybe that will get us back to the level we used to be.
"Being well-balanced, decent, successful people, or turning out such is truly a great result and is important. But isnt her prime directive." It also doesnt exclude successfully recruiting the best players-it isnt mutually exclusive.
Nice article. Is the person who wrote it really named Scooby Axson?????
The Team MVP thread got me thinks that Sherri might have a hard time identifying talent... more often then not we end up with kids who don't get a lot of time... we'll have to see if the kids in the 2017 class will help OU...
