Slim Crowd in Waco

Crowd does look very spotty. Rice is athletically outclassed and playing so poorly hard to tell anything about Baylor other than Sims is great.

Easy schedule until December. Then they face UK. Then will find out what they got. Also Nina Davis looked good.

I wonder why the crowd was so slim? We have had some fans who only seem to be interested in attending the games if they think we are National Championship material. Looks like Baylor has some of the same type fans.

It seems to me that attendance at all college sporting events is waning. There are exceptions, of course, but I think with so many games being televised and with all the smartphones, tablets and computers, anyone can pretty much watch any game, anywhere.

Also, I'm sure Hypocrite U fans had a letdown after having arguably the best women's college player ever and only one NC and only two Final Fours to show for it. Also, they may have been put off by Sulkey Mulkey's striptease!

On the broadcast they said the crowd was listed over 6,500...that had to be tickets sold so they are still selling a decent amount of season tickets. Based on seeing the crowd on TV I think I am being generous by saying 2,000 were actually in attendance.

Refs have rendered the games unwatchable. Repent college basketball. REPENT! ;)

Isn't attendance or participation in most things on the decline? It might be a good idea to learn how to use the internet to establish women's college basketball. I question how often the large arenas will be filled any more, whether sports or other activities.

Attendance definitely seems to be on a decline. Not sure about participation though, although you could be right. I think among women's collegiate sports you can see, at a high level, the desire to participate as players are stronger, faster and quicker than ever before. But that may be with a smaller total pool of athletes. I really haven't paid much attention to the high school participation levels but it seems like those that are really interested invest in the time, practice and training it requires in order to try and get to the next level. Things today, when they change, change really quickly just as it's all of a sudden being noticed almost everywhere the decline of attendance at collegiate D1 basketball, men's and women's. osu men are ranked in the top 10 and on the highlights the other day, you could see the arena wasn't even half full and they always claimed to be basketball school. Five or ten years ago, GIA would have been sold out or close to it with that high of a ranking. I would suspect there are a lot of different variables but the availability to watch your team anytime, anywhere on an electronic device would appear, to me, to be near the top of the list of distractions.

When I was a kid, the local gym was packed for every home game. Of course, it probably only held about a thousand or fifteen hundred people, and that was half the town. During a game, the streets were completely empty. The only cafe that was open was empty until the game was over. There wasn't anything else to do.

Now, that same town has everyone watching cable TV. Surprisingly, a lot of them my age are playing on Facebook. The churches aren't full any more. Nobody knows if there is a library any more. The movie theater can't generate a crowd, and a John Wayne western just won't do it any more. A few miles south, there was even a major internet porn operation, and it was run by the city marshal.

There is too much competition for time any more to fill an arena. If you want to go, you are so busy with so many things that you have to clear your schedule. When I was young, the schedule was: a) go to the game, or b) go to bed early.

I would love to see women's sports give the internet a whirl. Put all games on the internet and charge a small fee for each. Instead of drawing 4,000, see if you can get 40,000 viewers at 20% of the price.

I'm trying to picture two teams playing in a gym, empty but for the Internet camera. That dog just won't hunt.

Don't worry guys, Baylor's building an on-campus stadium, which should improve attendance.

;)

There are very few wbb programs in the nation which pack the house for weeknight games against no name opponents. This is especially true for games which occur during the fall semester.

OU wbb is certainly not dramatically superior to Baylor in this regard. OU had plenty of empty seats against stetson and ut arlington. And there will also be plenty more empty seats when western illinois comes to town.

Baylor was No. 4 in attendace last season. OU was No. 12. As empty as it seemed, it's still more than about half the teams have in their most attended games.

I tend to think that the Grinerless Bears will show some drop in attenance this season but only minor. Kim has built their fans base up just like Sherri did. They'll be just fine especially once conference games start and or a big-name team comes to Waco.

Baylor hate aside, I agree that the crowds will come back for both of our programs once conference games start.

And if BU fans stay away, I'm sure Art would be glad to loan Kim the tarp

I have to wonder if Kim's tirades after the Louisville game, and her treatment of Griner once she was gone won't have a negative effect on Baylor's followers.
