I heard Steely touch on this as I was driving in to work this morning, but I missed the conversation. Does anyone know anything about this situation?

Smart is a jerk. He learned nothing from his suspension, because networks like ESPN seem to glorify it. The NBA general managers would be dumb to take him in the lottery. He is not a franchise player in any sense of the imagination.

There are TONS of non-franchise players that will go in the lottery.

There are probably only a couple, maybe up to 5, franchise type players in the draft at all.

Smart will easily go in the lottery b/c of his upside. I do think he is pushing himself further down the draft, but that is simply moving down from a top 5 type pick, to maybe the 7-12 range.

The kid clearly isn't very smart though. After all he has been thru this season, and he still feels the need to flex his muscles after big plays, constantly whine to refs, and in general, just be a d*ck on the court. He acts like a "child" in the NBA, and those "men" will have a field day with him.

I watched this game and I never saw the taunting, but I did see it in the video at the link above. You could tell that that little foray from Smart really did make Ford mad.

Smart is such a punk.

Right, how many "franchise players" are in the NBA. What's the average length of time a franchise player is a franchise player? I'd go with 20 players and 5 years as rough guesses, both of which I think are, if anything, conservative. (i.e., there are fewer franchise players and they are in that category longer).

That means that there are roughly 4 guys who will be franchise players at some point in any draft.

Water is wet. Marcus Smart is an uncontrollable asshole.

It's all too clear that Smart's seemingly heartfelt apology two weeks ago was meaningless. Look no further than his uncalled for taunting of KU's bench as proof of that. He's a classless punk. No other words or phrases I can think of fit him better. As a stand-alone, his taunt may not have been too bad. But when you add that to everything else he's done recently, it's one more in a series of events that have cast a dark shadow over his character as a whole.

Marcus is his own worst enemy. But he's not entirely to blame for his behavior. Somewhere along the line, the adults in his camp failed him miserably by allowing him to behave poorly with no real consequences.

It was good to see Ford call him out for a change. If he had done that from the beginning, maybe the past few weeks would have been different. He certainly didn't do it following that ugly scene in Lubbock. Marcus wanted to get his verbal licks in with the official, and Travis let him do it, by making no effort whatsoever to get him out of the official's face.

Marcus Smart has a lot to learn. But it's highly unlikely it will happen in college. My guess is he will get his "education" the hard way in the NBA.

That's really a dumb thing to do considering that he doesn't know if he'll have to play them again.

The weird thing is, I don't remember attitude being an issue at all with Smart coming out of high school. Was suppose to be a really good kid, and all that jazz. Now he acts like a complete butt head on the court every chance he gets. Nice going Travis Ford.

I have to admit I am very interested to see how Smart does in the NBA. Personally I don't see it with Smart. Obviously he is a very good college player but I don't a NBA starter.

I really think he could be on anabolic steroids...

They hate Smart over on KU boards right about now. Bawwwww so cute. Looking forward to them hating Spangler when we beat them for the Big 12 tourney later this month

You may be right, BT. I never considered that as a possibility.

As I recall, you and Will were really high on him when he was being recruited by OU out of high school. Seems to me you even drove to Texas to watch him play once. Did you see anything in his make up to suggest that his behavior would morph into a total knucklehead two years later?

I'd take him on my team.
