Can we PLEASE stop the pipedream of Marcus Smart coming to OU and offer Woodard already?!!

I just feel like there is no way we beat Texas or UNC for him. . . Let alone the other slew of teams he lists.

The more I read, the less I think he goes to OU and the longer other teams have to convince Woodard to come their way. I don't want to get left in the wings with neither.

I also agree that there is almost no chance he goes to OU, but we gotta at least try. He could help turn this program around

I agree that he would probably be a great foundation to turn things around. I just get the feeling, more and more that he is Texas bound. Maybe the coaches get a different feel? I just hope we dont miss out on Woodard.

I think Smart is worth chasing a little longer, if the staff thinks they have a shot. Give LK some credit, this isn't his first rodeo.

And I don't think there is any guarantee that we run out and offer elder Woodard as soon as we are out of the Smart sweepstakes.

I dont disagree on that. . . But if they are serious with Williams-Goss they better offer Woodard because he is a better player. I realize there are scholly limits this year though.

FWIW, Smart is visiting Texas today.

We won't stop recruiting Smart until he commits to somebody else. He is an absolute stud and winner.
Woodward still has to play himself into a scholarship offer.

The guy who covers basketball at Orangebloods posted, "I talked to someone today that is dialed into the Smart recruitment today that felt Texas is the team to beat".

Of course, he says that about just about every recruit over there. So who knows.

If Marcus Smart goes to Texas, we may have to put Sam on suicide watch.

From a poster on Orangebloods.com who is considered as one of their top basketball insiders......

On the Smart visit, Ive heard from as good as source as you can get, the trip started out shaky with where we felt we stood. But at the end of the visit, Smart was singing praise of the staff and 2011 commits Myck, Gibbs and Bond. Even went to church with Gibbs and Bond on sunday. 2 team race Kansas-Texas, with UNC,Baylor outside looking in. Looking good for us

I find it hard to believe we are THAT far behind the other 4, if at all. I'm not saying we are the favorite, but the kid wants to stay home. I don't see any way he goes to NC.

Holy He!!. . . It is a sad sad sad day when Baylor starts absolutely whipping our a$$ in recruiting. They have leap frogged us recently in recruiting. I am hoping Lon Kruger and his staff get the world back upright. LOL

Most believe the kid will be playing in the Big 12. UT has long thought to be the leader here so it would be no surprise, but he is very close to Forte and his family who happen to be Jayhawks. So this doesn't surprise me at all that UT and KU are battling it out for Smart. I'm still guessing Texas with him.

You can't have 3 coach's in a span of 6 years and not expect to get leap frogged.
You can't give up on 'pipe dreams' like Smart and not expect to get Leap frogged.
Baylor has passed us b/c Drew has been there for awhile and has paid his dues. He went after guys like Dunn, Carter, Jones, Miller and he didn't listen to guys (like you) who said they had no chance at landing these kids.
You can recruit Smart and Woodard (along with other players) at the same time. At the end of the day...we might not get Smart, but we might not get Woodard either.

I rather us go after these top recruits and not get a single one then not go after them at all b/c we were afraid we would strike out.

This is a different time in college basketball. We use to be able to get it done with local and juco kids but the NCAA is making kids go to college and guys who would be in the NBA are coming for a year and ones who would have jumped to the NBA that weren't as good as they thought are staying more than one year. Guys like Jones at Kentucky, Monroe at G'town, Sullinger at Ohio St, Henson and Barnes at UNC...etc...are staying in college when they most likely would have jumped to the NBA right out of high school if the 1 year rule wasnt in place.

OU's downfall wasn't bringing in guys like Warren, TMG and Gallon...the downfall was that we didn't bring in those type of guys the year after.

Well, with Warren,TMG, and Gallon. OU was 15-18 and got on probation. That sure looks like a downfall to me.

if you throw out Gallon taking money, if 2 of those guys returns...our season would have been totally different and most likely would have been in the ncaa tournament.

No. Our problem was that out of the 4 studs we recruited, only one of them wasn't a headcase.

I guess that you can speculate all you want. But, your trifecta did go 15-18 and the following year without them was about the same.

Here is the reality. With the elite caliber recruits, the majority of either their AAU coach or someone in their posse have their hand out. They are trying to sell access or influence. Kruger will not pay them.

The number of elites that can be recruited and signed clean is significantly less than the number of elites. The competition is keen for them and many of them just simply want to go to a basketball school.

it isn't that he doesn't want them. It is just that circumstances prevent him from getting many. He has always been able to round up enough good players to win. And I'm sure Oklahoma will be no different.
