If you wanted to be really cynacil (sp?) about it, you could say that signing a bunch of new players right now adds to job security for another year or two. I'm not, but there is always the argument to be made about letting these players develop.
I could be wrong here, but signing the kids that we have and possibly filling all our ships with these types of kids is building the foundation necessary to support bringing in high caliber recruits. Sure saving some ships and bring in big dogs next year could turn things around faster, but it could also destroy the program if things go south again. I believe that most of us on this board would want to build that foundation now and reap the benefits in a couple years. I think that this foundation JC is building could be something very special and I'm eager to see where it goes.

That's not cynical; it should be accepted as an absolute truth that coaches will first and foremost act in their own self-interest.
I was pretty surprised when I heard we were recruiting this kid, given Jeff Capel's unambiguous earlier statement. I don't know what to make of it, quite frankly. It could very well be that he just thinks Noreen is too good a player to turn down. Hopefully it is not that he is worried about the quality of the players on campus/incoming players. Who knows. Circumstances change.
Perhaps Capel's comments were what he thought at the time. Things changed so much in only a couple of weeks. Maybe he thinks theses kids are better than we would most likely get next year? Maybe he really is only looking for 3-4 year kids and is using the Juco's as a bridge to all the freshman he is bringing in? It could be any number of things. Shoot there have be several times I had been looking for stuff and given up and then BAM 3 or 4 of the different things I had been looking for. Did I pick just one noooo, I got them all.
i think some are forgetting that just a week after making those comments he was on the radio saying he was trying to fill all the spots... so he turned that statement around pretty quickly actually... i think a couple of guys probably surprised him with there interest/commit and that was why there was such a quick change...
What's changed? Jeff probably wants to coach hungry competitive kids. Stability and experience in the program can achieve great things not just athletically gifted brats. Jeff hopefully is working towards that now. With enough mature core players in the program he may better handle a burger baby.
If there are more defections at the end of next season when does it become a problem with graduation rates/scholarship losses? Other than Crock & Cade no one from the first 3 recruiting classes will have made it.
Lots of good comments. I would add also that because of injuries, sicknesses, and the sort we never had enough players to practice like we should. I think that probably figured into JC's decision as well. I'm thinking or hoping that he is seeing players in these kids and surprises us all when the season starts.
