Softball

In 2014 Kelsey was very sharp. Patty will start her, I hope, instead of Paige who wasnt sharp tonight. She needs rest so as to carry us after tomorrow. As the 'Bama coach said, you need three things to win: good pitching, good defense and timely hitting. Check, check and check. There's nothing like some last inning drama, but I'll get over it (with some adult beverage help).

Michigan gone. Loses to Florida State, 0-1.

Were the top seed left, but that is rough for Michigan to play the late game last night then turn around and play first today. Makes our win last night even more important

So. We get LSU who won 4-1 over Georgia.

Auburn vs Florida State
LSU vs OU

So, if FSU wins tonight's game over Auburn, forcing an additional game tomorrow, and if we beat LSU tonight, that should have the result of giving our pitcher an additional game of rest on Monday, right?

EDIT: Never mind, Auburn wins in extra innings, after yet again an error-induced meltdown by the Seminoles. Errors bit them in their opening loss to Georgia, and bit them again tonight, due to an error on what should have been a single that allowed two extra bases.

You just cannot win at this level by playing sloppy ball defensively.

Ah well, I hope that we can beat LSU in the nightcap coming up.

We don't usually make base-running errors, I'll give her a pass, being a freshman. She'll learn from it.

I wonder how much gas Paige has left in the tank?

Paige is the Pitcher of the Year. Has to be. Gutsy performance.

Does the SEC play defense?

So, had we lost, I think we would have played another game into the wee hours. Do you people think they would have postponed it until tomorrow morning and still have started the championship tomorrow evening?
I really wish that Kelsey would get a chance to pitch in the tourney and WIN the game.

LSU'S defense hurt them, plus the player not knowing to take second after she and Shaya collided. We played some great defense, as usual, Kelsey Arnold as usual. She is so good. This team is so much fun to watch. I haven't seen
Auburn at all. What type of pitcher do they have. I was glad we didn't have to
face Osorio again and am wondering what Auburn has in the way of pitching.

ALSO, I could not understand what the announcers were saying about the pitching. Were they saying that LSU knew what we were going to pitch by paying attention to the pitch called by the coach? That they had figured out the calls because there weren't that many?

First time to actually see any games on tv this year, so much more fun than radio and stats.

And really liked Sierra Romero from her interview tonight. Intelligent, gracious, cool and great attitude. PLUS, I loved the smile she had after Sydney homered against them.

Paige more consistently threw strikes tonight and when she does that she is double tough to beat. Best game she has pitched of the last three. She has to get a big boost from the defense around her. Against Auburn we will have to be super aggressive and opportunistic. They have great hitters. My only wish is that Paige avoid the last inning drama.

Florida and Ole Miss rank in the top 5 in fielding. Missouri #13, South Carolina #20, Alabama #25 and Auburn #33. LSU #153, at .959 prior to tonight. I am inclinded to think that our aggressiveness and speed put a little pressure on the Tigers as well.

I love how Paige's expression never changes. Anyway, it didn't these last two games. Haven't seen her on tv since last year.

Auburn is SEC correct? I was wondering about their pitcher and their defense and their hitting......well, about their team. Haven't seen play. Any weaknesses?

FINALLY, we lose TWO starters from this team. The sophomores and freshmen just have more experience. Macy Hatfield is a junior I think. She is a pretty good hitter. Don't know if she will have a place on defense next year. I would like to see her get to play next year.

I am wondering if Whitney Ellis is regretting her decision. I don't see anyone taking the catching position from her but maybe she was just tired of playing.
My dad played football in Duncan, Ok., and in his junior year, 1938, was scouted by Stanford. My mom was a yr older and they married before his senior year and I remember his saying he was tired of football his senior yr. I don't think he would have had the confidence to go to college because of school, not football, also think he was not comfortable being away from home.
I understand that. They were poor and their parents hadn't graduated from high school though my maternal grandmother had a very high iq.

They said on TV that the LSU coach had identified that she could tell the pitch by how Paige gripped and how deep she held the ball in her glove. The LSU coach was standing 20-30' behind 3rd base so she could identify the pitch and relay it to her batter. Apparently she was wrapping her wrist around the ball while holding it in the glove. They also said you could tell something by how deep she put the ball in her glove but I did not understand what they indicated the tell was.

I have watched SEC teams make error after error. The infields aren't as tight. Tennessee made errors when we visited. Auburn and Georgia made errors. More than that, they misplayed balls that we would have caught. Bell looked like she had never played third. The World Series is often won and lost on misplays or plays not made. An example was Romero's failure to touch second. For us, that is unique. But, it is commonplace to see that type of misplay from the SEC teams. They have slappers. But, they act like they haven't seen them before. Throwing to the wrong base isn't an error. But, it results in setting up runs.

The longest winning streak is 47 set by Arizona in the 1996-1997 season. We are at 30, which is a school record. Arizona's record is not in danger yet but, it's not out of the question either.

Thanks for the response. Was really curious what was said.

Well LSU did themselves no favors on defense last night. What type of pitching should we expect from Auburn?
