Softball

Pitching will be the key...Kavan and Landry offset each other...but you would have to say the Texas depth pitchers have been a little better than ours. We have the home field advantage and I would expect the crowd to be very loud and excited playing Texas...but agree I would not expect a sweep for either team and 3 close tense games. Also Patty>>>>>Mike White...so 2 wins for us.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the Texas series? I honestly don't expect us to win but I expect all three games to be competitive and for us to win at least one of them
I expect the Sooners to win the series. A sweep would not shock me, though I admit I would be pleasantly surprised to see them pull it off.

I believe the young talent at OU is equal to that of the horns offensively, especially with the Sooners playing in front of their rabid fanbase. Defensively, the Sooners are better than the horns. Pitching depth, and possibly speed on the base paths, are the areas where texas may have a slight advantage. But I believe you can expect the horns to implode defensively in at least one game.

Winning – or even better – sweeping the series would mean a lot for OU's hopes of getting a top eight seed in the tournament, as well as getting a couple of byes in the SEC tournament.

I don't want to come across as negative but I I'd be happy if we won any game and were competitive in all three. Texas is an experienced, battle-tested team with elite pitching, and we are not. That's not a bad thing, it's just the truth - we are YOUNG and lack experience, yet have a lot of talent and potential. I'm going into this one not expecting anything but hoping for competitiveness. That way if we get swept it won't ruin my weekend!

I hope we can at least spilt the next 6 games. 3 vs. Fexas and 3 at Florida. Would like to win all 6 but am trying to be kinda realistic.

3 out of the next 6 against good opponents would be a good outing. Since we are at #9 in the RPI idk how many wins we need to secure a top 8 seeding. Makes me nervous for this young team to imagine them having to travel for a Super Regional..

We had this series all the swept leading 8-0 going into the fourth inning and what does our intelligent coach do? She puts in lowry, a pitcher that struggled against even the worst of opponents and let her give up about six runs then puts in monticelli, who has never been able to find the strike zone, and lets them all but tie the game up 8 - 8 on us. It's like gasso felt sorry for Mike White gift wrap this game and handed it right back to him. This is a horrible coaching job, you don't take risks like that and relinquish a comfortable borderline run rule lead to your arch rival who you barely have a lead on in the conference standings!! And on top of everything our bats have gone completely cold

Sooners win! 9-8.

I'm certainly not an expert on softball, but I think we need a 3rd pitcher to step up in order to make a deep run in the postseason. For a 3rd pitcher to step up, they need to play and prove themselves in high-pressure situations. Unfortunately, they didn't do that today. Thankfully, in spite of 'horrible coaching' (your words, not mine) we managed to sweep Texas anyway. You learn and grow more winning a game like this than you do in a run-rule game.

Why pull Smith so quick? White did an equal horrible job as Gasso did by leaving his starter in way too long. Not a good look by either head coaches today.

you thinking this 1 game is more important then finding out what pitchers have and putting them in big moments is something ..

Isabela Smith is most likely that third or maybe even second pitcher. I know the plan was to take her out after going through the lineup once, but she went through without a hit and when she gave up a single they pulled her, with disastrous results. I don't see any reason to think Lowery or especially Monticelli is usable, Lowery hasn't been the same since her injury hope she can get it back.

Hindsight is certainly 20/20 here (and Smith was throwing SO well), but you'd think an 8-0 cushion was a really good spot (as good as it gets!) to get Lowry some experience in a big environment against a good team. Unfortunately, she wasn't able to perform and didn't get a single out. Now we know. Props to the team for pulling out the win anyway after ALL the momentum shifted to texass. Emerling struggled at the plate throughout the series, but she was able to get the ball to the outfield for the game winning sac run. Kudos to her.

Lowry had similar results a week ago against Miss. State. She started the Sunday game and faced only 6 batters. 5 hits and 4 runs in one third of an inning. Somrthing must still be wrong with her muscle strain.

this board is so aggressive and nasty when they read something they disagree with. I come and voice an opinion and get attacked and called names, like this is high school? The 3rd game was very important as we are battling for a top 8 seeding in the postseason. Sweeping texas is a very good step in being able to overcome a weaker SOS this year and winning the SEC and landing a top 8 seed. anyway, done with this board.

Everything you say is true. I hope you will stay and post here.
