Well our absolutely embarrassingly pathetic pitching lost this game. I have never seen an OU staff look that horrible. The two transfers literally lost the game for us lol. They are definitely not yet Sooners in mental toughness

Well let's just take a wild guess that MAYBE it had something to do with Rocha being gone? Tough adjustment for young kids to make when the coach they have worked with daily since the start of practice isn't there, and Keeney bless her heart is no doubt doing her best but she's still brand new to this and to them. In Gasso we trust, its early February

Exactly! The paranoia is a little bit much.

I'm sorry for those of you that are fans but I've never felt Katie was worth a darn. She's a mental case and just does not have the fortitude to be competitive when we need her to be. I'm worried that Lowry is going to be our only arm

Maybe we should move Wells further down the lineup for now? After that home run at her first AB I don't believe she's gotten on base....

I really wish our upperclassmen bats had performed better today. It's been all lower class men that have produced for us. Up 5-4 bottom of the seventh. Arizona's last 3 outs. I hope Lowry can pull this one out for us.

Our defense came up big along with Lowry's steady pitching and we pulled it out 5-4! Definitely an entertaining, gritty last game!!

Great win, very gritty. As noted above a couple of ? base running plays, would be interesting to know(likely we won't) whether those were called and therefore coaching errors or whether the runner made a mistake. Both were easy outs for UA

On the base running issue, I don't know if Patty will discuss it and give trade secrets away, but she has always played some games on the paths that look dumb if there isn't execution. I'm fine with it. For example, the double play with Minor at the plate. I am betting she wanted Minor to pull the bunt down the first base line, thereby pulling the first baseman towards the plate, and the second baseman to first (albeit late getting there). If the first baseman holds to tag Minor, she has advanced the runner to third base. If the first baseman throws to third, maybe she gets that out, but she can't get the ball to first in time. Defense, at best, has to play things really well and smart to get anyone and any mistake or confusion she advances a runner to third and gets another base runner. Of course, if Minor bunts the ball down the third base line or to the pitcher, she can be made to look silly. Could be a screw up, but I bet it was a "play" and poor execution. Be interesting to know.

On a scale of 1 to 10, my softball knowledge is probably a 2, but my immediate thought was 'bad bunt'.

We were bumped down to #4 in today's poll, but i'm good with that right now. Too early to know how good anyone really is.

How do you all feel about this team? I'm excited about our offense/defense, but I question the strength of our pitching staff. Do you think not having Rocha was the issue with the arms that weren't at their best? If so, it may be a reoccurring issue until she returns, hope not though.

Right now, Lowry is definitely our ace. I also think Parker pitched very well on Friday. I didn't dislike Zache's arm either, she's just a bit raw. The 2 seniors really disappointed me, and Guachino wasn't as crafty as I hoped. Season's still very young, so plenty of time to improve. Def have all of the pieces to win a natty again, IMO

Very glad that we fought back to win game 3 yesterday. It's big for this team to know they have the moxie of the OU teams of recent past -- as long as they have one more strike, it's not over.

The pitching staff is definitely a concern. Lowry aside, whose improvement is impressive. I'm willing to give the two transfers a bit of a pass. Even though they were pretty disastrous on Friday, losing Rocha probably set them back. I'm not even sure they'd ever met Keeney prior to this weekend, and suddenly she's their pitching coach and calling pitches without knowing their strengths/weaknesses. No doubt they need to be better for us to reach our ceiling, though.

Deal is what she is at this point. Sadly, she hasn't improved much since her freshman year. We can use her against weaker competition and maybe for an inning here or there, but I don't expect much more.

For Friday's game -- even with bad pitching at times, we still would've won if a) we didn't leave NINE batters stranded throughout the game. With 1-2 more clutch hits, we win.... and b) if Garcia and Agbayani didn't each have a critical error on a routine play. Those errors kept innings alive for Arizona and gave them a total of 8 runs. We're definitely good enough to overcome one facet of the game that struggles.
