UT investigating report that ‘fixer’ helped former Horns guard J’Covan Brown with high school courses

The Austin American Statesman reported Wednesday that University of Texas officials have launched an investigation into allegations that former basketball player J’Covan Brown had a “fixer” help him with high school course work before Brown came to Austin.

The Statesman story cites a report published by The Chronicle of Higher Education about a 42-year-old described as a one-time academic advisor and college basketball coach who allegedly helped players attain and keep their eligibility by feeding them tests and occasionally taking classes for them.

“The university had no previous knowledge of these allegations,” said Patricia Ohlendorf, UT’s vice president for legal affairs.

“The individual who is accused of providing assistance to multiple student-athletes around the country, mentioned in the Chronicle story, has never been affiliated with the university.”

Here's to hoping no OU players are on that list.

That is a strange story. How could a 42 year old take a test for a high school kid? I could see it in college.

Unfortunately, since it's UT, the NCAA will somehow waffle on it and let them off with a "stern talking-to" or something lame like that.
