The fans and particularly this board were divided.. Hopefully they hire a good coach and everyone can get back on the same page and be excited for OU basketball again.

Was thinking that exact same thing. Time for the wounds to heal. Hope everyone can stop holding their grudges.

Good thread. Totally agree.
I was back and forth on Capel. My primary concern with firing him now, was finding a really good replacement. Hopefully, Joe C. already has a "WOW" hire lined up.

Truth is that we're probably screwed. This has become the equivalent of the football program in the 90s.

I agree. Hopefully it happens quickly too. Recruiting is hanging in the balance!

Well said.

+1

Let's hope for the sake of the program and the sake of ourselves that this move turns out fantastic. I wanted Capel to get another year, but absolutely not holding a grudge against the next guy.

Exactly. As a vocal anti-Capel poster, I hope other posters will give me a chance to show I am not just a negative poster, but someone who deeply cared about the basketball program and wanted it to do and be better than it was under Capel.

Come on, Joe, give us a good coach, but whoever it is I will give a fair chance to succeed.

I agree, but it won't happen.

We didn't stop arguing Billy vs. Kelvin until Kelvin was gone.

We constantly have arguments over whether we'd take Kelvin back even with the NCAA microscope.

I doubt Capel will have a ton of defenders for very long because he didn't have a sustained level of success like Billy and KS did. But I won't underestimate the Sooner Nation's ability to hold a grudge for way longer than is practical.

Never going to happen. Some on this board just aren't happy unless they are *****ing about something. It will be his style of offense, the inability to teach free throw shooting or something.

By the time he left, a lot of fans were calling for Billy tubbs head. By the time he left and before the telephone calls as well, people were *****ing about Sampson. They were both good coaches to level headed folks.

Like you, I hope we get a good coach that is successful. But, unless we win a NC every year, the haters will surface.

I am/was a Capel supporter. Im on board with a new guy. Past is past and lets get OU back to the NCAA's and "bi-winning"...

Your posts did not seem immature, moronic, or petty. I wanted another year for Capel for various reasons I do not need to defend but I also understand why others had a different view. We have a few posters who seemed to down right dislike Capel and thats kinda strange as well as a few who just seem filled with negativity and thats to bad for them. Hopefully the program gets an infusion of energy and excitement now.

BOB, as someone who has known you as a poster for longer than either of us care to admit, I can attest to your usually postive approach to most topics as well as your genuine affection for OU basketball. I'm confident others here will realize that going forward under the leadership of a new coach.

I echo your plea for Joe C. to hire a good coach with a track record for leadership and success.
