Sherri Coale had no new revelations a few days removed from Oklahoma’s recent loss to Baylor.

The Sooners need to get better, Coale said, and that’s the only measurable that concerns the coach.

Now is as good as any time to do so.

OU (8-9, 3-3 Big 12) travels to Kansas State (11-6, 3-3) on Wednesday with a chance to usurp the Wildcats in the Big 12 standings, starting a threegame stretch that’s critical to enhancing the Sooners’ NCAA tournament résumé.

K-State has won back-toback games including an 80-64 win over then-No. 20 Oklahoma State on Saturday, when forwards Kaylee Page (20 points) and Peyton Williams (18 points) combined for a huge night inside.

OU hasn’t won in Manhattan in its past two tries.

“We’re worried about playing better against Kansas State than we did against Baylor, and Kansas State’s arguably the hottest team in the conference, with the way they played against Oklahoma State,” Coale said. “They’re a handful to try to guard. They play with a lot of confidence. They’re really good at home.”

OU shot 17 percent in the final half of a 74-52 home loss Sunday to No. 5 Baylor, but has finally reached a manageable portion of its schedule, which is the third most difficult in the nation, according o the NCAA’s Ratings Percentage Index.

The Sooners host No. 24 OSU on Saturday with a chance to avenge a previous 96-82 loss, then welcome Kansas (11-6, 2-4) the following week. OU — which, at No. 36, is the only team to maintain position in the RPI top 40 with a losing record — has yet to win three consecutive games this season, not counting its exhibition slate. To start, it will have to solve K-State’s zone defense, a look the Sooners haven’t seen much this season.

“They play hard. I don’t think it would matter if they were playing man or playing zone. They know their purpose,” Coale said. “They’re long, they’re all 6-foot tall or more, so there’s a lot of length in it.”
