Sooners vs. Tech

Maddie almost got a triple double:
9 points
10 rebounds
8 steals

OU had fifteen steals.

Why does everyone start changing the world when an upset happens. I will say i think TCU played good defense and made Texas work for all they got- Joyner Holmes should feel teeeibke for the spot she puts her team in after being dismissed and not able to be back in game mode. But the truth is TCU just got hot. That doesn’t happened to most teams even once a season. Texas was wore down. Tcu has one allamerican who is suppose to be one of the best shooters in the country yet she didn’t score one of those 3 pointers. I think TCU is a nice team but let’s not make them into a powerhouse they got hot PERIOD!

Back to OU yes the game was sloppy and yes gabbi seems to be struggling.

I think it revealed just how vulnerable UT is right now more than how good TCU is. OSU held the lead until the last few minutes. Oklahoma made a comeback in the 2nd half. KSU hung around all game. The only Big 12 game that UT looked totally in control of was WVU.

TCU is a nice team and will probably hold their own on their home court all season long. From 3-8 in the Big 12 will be scrappy every night. And I think UT and BU will both have another loss before the regular season is over.

As bad as we are, or may be depending upon your outlook, thank God we aren't as pathetic as Texas Tech.

I don't think I've ever seen a women's team as bad as they are in the Big 12. Not even Kansas! Of course, I haven't seen Kansas or K-State yet this year.

When you look at our stat sheet, there really isn't much to crow about outside of Vivi and Maddie and their scoring, which we are all grateful to see (now do that the rest of the season, please).

Having been around young women's sports teams as a coach, I have rarely seen a group as uncertain as this one is. I know they are not just going through the motions to get the season over. But sometime you sit there watching in Lloyd Noble or at home on the TV and you find yourself wondering WTH?

Perhaps they are beaten down a bit or have just settled for what they are instead of trying to be what they could be.

I keep thinking they are lost and want to find themselves but just don't seem to have the will and courage to be all that they could be.

And truth be told, with a short and weak bench, I'm not sure they could be much more than they are right now.

Having Anna and Pellington moving into the line-up as starters and coming off the bench more has been a help.

Still, I think everyone is hoping for better days in the next two years and we are all about to say this is a turning point year, so we'll just live with it.

Love watching the Sooners, albeit it is sure difficult this year. Let's play it out and think of better times ahead.

Lots of good thoughts, there Oliver.

Honestly, I think the problem is that we have multiple players who are decent players, but the reason they aren't really good players is because they are inconsistent or lack the athleticism to take it to another level against the best competition. It's as simple as that.

Most D-1 players are capable of scoring. The difference between the really good players and the ones who aren't as good is the fact the really good players do it consistently. 80-90% of the time vs. 50% of the time.

Unfortunately, I think most of the players on our team have hit a ceiling. I don't know they will get much better. I really don't think it's a coaching issue. Looking back, it's a recruiting issue.

I really do like Maddie Manning & Ortiz & Vivi. They are nice players, and they have contributed a lot to the program. Maddie & Vivi lack a killer instinct. They simply lack aggression. It's just not in their genes, especially Vivi. It's not a lack of effort or not caring. It's not that at all. Some athletes are just wired differently. Now Ortiz... she has the fire and aggression, but she lacks the athleticism to make it happen against the best competition.

Shaina & Ana seem to have an aggression to them. I think they're going to be really good. Mandy Simpson does, as well, but I have a feeling she will end up in a category more like Ortiz - a really nice player who does a lot of good things but will always struggle against more athletic competition. Mandy could be a Caton Hill type player, but she hasn't shown the ability to shoot it like Caton could.

We need more of what Courtney Paris brought. More of what Amanda Thompson brought. More of what D-Rob brought. Not just in terms of skill but in terms of that aggression. They played with a real attitude and purpose. You could see it in their eyes. Pure fire. We lack that today, and I think it's why we struggle defensively. We just don't know how to 'ball.' This will sound ridiculous and hokey but we have some nice basketball players, but we need to compete at the highest levels are some more 'ballers' - some players with a little mud in their blood. I was disappointed to see Dungee transfer because I thought she had a little bit of that. Mulkey, meanwhile, did not.

The Maddie Manning that I saw play three games in Hawaii was as good as any player we have had, potential-wise. Two ACL injuries disrupted a part of that. But, if you notice, she can take over a game without scoring. Last night, we trailed 7-0 until Maddie took over on defense. Her long arms and quick hands resulted in eight steals, numerous tips, and a complete disruption of Tech. She hit two early threes, and she was essentially done with scoring. She did get ten boards to go with her eight steals. She shut down Ariel Atkins once and did the same thing with OSU's leading scorers, Donohue and Coleman. She is also the ball hawk that anchors the traps, spending the whole night running between players, trying to disrupt something.

I think we also had some injury problems with Hand that took away a great natural shooter. You can't shoot well if your pins aren't under you. She was never the same after the first ACL.

Other than that, I haven't seen the blood-thirsty player in recent years. I hope to see more of that next year. I think Ana and Shaina have some of that. Have hopes of Tatum, Madison, and Taylor, maybe Murcer. Intrigued by Lampkin.

DRob was the drive in the last two Final Fours. It takes a guard.

I think Lampkin is going to surprise a lot of people. I really like the way she plays.
