Sources: Capel to return to Duke as assistant

And his assistant coaching job is probably 10 Xs better than your job.

Capel wouldn't laugh about your job, because he is a class act.

Get lost.

Capel has already made more money while at OU then most people on this board will make in their lifetimes. It's not like his family will go foodless anytime soon.

Besides, if I do my job as poorly as Capel did his while at OU, I too would get fired, and I wouldn't have an easy time finding good work either. Difference is, I wouldn't have the luxury of a multi-million dollar buy-out.

Now that is worth "LOL" about.

How is it Capel's fault someone signed him to a contract and agreed to pay him that much money? What does that change about anything? If you took a program to the best 8 in the entire country, then had two poor years and got fired, some company would still hire you.

Don't blame Capel because your lot in life doesn't put millions of dollars in your bank account. Resentment is a pathetic emotion.

This post was definitely not class act.

That's a fair point. I'm happy for him and I bet he's ecstatic for this change, but this should be a relatively easier gig compared to basically any other assistant job.

Will point out that his biggest flaw IMO was evaluating the character of his recruits, so this change should help him exponentially.

I agree with that point but he wasn't exactly an X's and O's stud and being with Coach K won't help that much either.

I guess this isn't a terrible move for him (not sure what his other options were), but it just seems like running home after a difficult period. Just hope he has some introspection on what he did wrong at OU and doesn't get his ego stroked by being "home"

LMAO. It has nothing to do with resentment. The only thing I resent is that Capel nearly destroyed a one proud program.

Huh? Again, it has nothing to do with money, other than that is the reason I refuse to feel sorry for him.

In the context, I will respectfully disagree.

WTSooner was "lol" about Capel taking an assistant coaching job at the finest basketball school in the country, and I attempted to put it in perspective for him.

Edit: On second thought, it was not a "classy" thing for me to say. I should have just let it go. It just gets old when someone tirelessly beats a dead horse.

For the record, my "lol" was more directed at the fans that thought he'd land a nice HC job immediately, then Capel himself. And there were several fans that thought that.

Best of luck to Jeff and I hope it works out for him.

I disagree this means he will be the next HC at Duke as I think Wojo, and Chris Collins are both ahead of him in the pecking order.

I can't imagine any Duke fan wanting Coach K to hand the reigns of the program over to a coach who failed at a top 20 program. I would think the AD would be placing his job on the line with that move.

Interesting!

Despite the issues Capel had at OU, I would not be surprised to see him learn from the mistakes and turn into one of the top coaches in the country in a few years. Spending time at Duke will probably help prepare him more for the day when another top opportunity presents itself. Jeff's probably looking at this as an "apprenticeship" to round out his learning on how to be an excellent coach at an upper-level job.

I dont see how this helps him learn from his mistakes. His main mistake was thinking he could recruit and coach at OU like it was Duke. He wont learn that at Duke. Duke doesnt have to deal with 90% of the problems most D-1 schools do.
