Starting Five Next Season

Mulkey will start again next year to win the tip then vivi will check in

Mulkey is not starting next year unless Sherri dramatically changes this offense. She wouldn't even sub her in last night after her first time of the bench and she got an earful from Sheri.

Mulkey has a lot of off season work to do.

Vivi
-----let's hope they figure out how to use Nancy. Could be a good rotation.

Maddie
Chelsea
Ana
Gabbi

I look for a rotation with Shaina involved, in which case Gabbi switches to SG. Shaina can also be a shooting guard.

Rich---we still don't know why she was so highly rated.
Penzo---she's still only 19, and she should be over her ACL by then.

+1

Maddie
Ana
Gabbi
Chelsea
Vivi

but wish it was:

Ana
Gabbi
Chelsea
Nancy
Vivi

Personally for the long term benefit of the team I would like to see Maddie graduate and move on. Focus on a high/low post game with Vivi/Mulkey or Vivi/Idimgbe and let them develop.
Giving up Maddie's 30 minutes of court time would allow Nancy and Ijeoma to develop more rapidly and make for a more complete team in 2019 and 2020.

I 100% agree.

I also wish Maddie would move on. She has been at OU 5 years and will have her BS and Masters degrees. I cringe everytime she goes down, hoping she will be able to get up and walk again.

There is the Hall of Fame. Then, there is the Hall of Shame. Sherri is in one.

Sherri is in the right one. But she got there for what she did in the past. My interest is what she does in the future. Of late there is question that she is headed in the right direction. Hopefully we will know if she is headed to where we want her to be within the next 2-3 years.

Sherri is in the Hall of Fame and is amazingly worth of it.

What I would hate is to see her descend into the Hall of Shame because she won't or can no longer do the recruiting, signing and coaching to bring us back to top 10 or national championship caliber.

I would hope she would leave before that befalls here, but she is teetering on heading head-long in that direction, IMHO.

I agree, let her go into the administration with Boren..be on his staff..pay her what they want then I wouldn't care a bit.

I thought about ViVi and Mulkey starting together, but it would leave OU without a backup post... EJ doesn't play much same for McKenna, also it doesn't look like ViVi or Mulkey can defend the 4 right now. I think Mulkey still has a world of potential, and could be a stretch 5.

I don't think the starting 5 will be determined until the offseason workouts, and injury recovery happens. I posted this on the back next year thread.
Don't know how iincoming freshmen will do, but expect some playing time, however..
We may not get the returning 4 + Ana. We have Morgan Rich on the bench, who was a highly recruited player-no idea why she didn't play, but IF she is a player and was slowed down with injury, maybe she will make a move. McKenna Treece had a bad hip,-Can she get healthy? Will Nancy Mulkey live in the weight room, the gym, and the malt shop and get the heft and confidence to vastly improve. Gisella Penzo has the basketball savvy to play, but has looked slow-Is it injury related, and can she use the off-season to improve enough to earn a spot?
And I don't think any (YES ANY) of the returning starters have shown enough to have a spot sewn up. ViVi is bad against bigger centers. Maddie disappears at times, and can't stay in from of majority of opponents one on one. Gabbi started this year poorly, and got better, but not to her potential. Chelsea as a freshman is the closest IMO to locking down a spot next year.
My hope is that we have lost the inability to be consistent, and that depth pushes starters to get better, rather than remain up and down.

Normally, you do better.

Maddie led the team in steals. Apparently, she is quick enough, even with the knee problems. She, as a result of her constant pursuit, probably leads the team in tips that result in steals by others. She is by far our best three-point shooter, and she was logging as many as nine rebounds on several occasions, especially just prior to yet another injury. She will be the leader.

Vivi has played against Osahor twice previously. For some reason, people only remember certain games. Let's see, she scored 33 against WV in Norman. They have a big post. I think she scored 15 and 21 against Texas. She dominated Texas last year when they had Boyette. What she does not handle well is being swarmed, like Baylor. She has not learned what to do if she is surrounded.

Someone said that Shaina was not highly-recruited. She was Canadian, not on the American charts. She may be our best recruit. She was on the national team that I understand beat ours.

I hope Mulkey will hang around for the long hall...

Mac do you believe Mulkey will leave? If you look at her history she has never played an entire season mostly due to injury. It was good that other than preseason she was healthy this year.

Sorry Syb, but nobody played well enough this year to insure a job next year. I am not going to list faults I see of players that are giving their best, but everyone had off games. IMO leaders of a highly inconsistent team loaded with seniors and 5th year seniors, and juniors with 3 years experience do not have a resume that inspires confidence. (basketball only, as I think this is a really high quality group of ladies).

I disagree. I can see why you think as you do. But, I think the best basketball players return.

I think there would be a good discussion about whether Vivi, Maddie or Peyton were the best players across the entirety of the season.

It would be a very close call in my opinion.

All 3 were very inconsistent this year. I would have to take Peyton because she was va very steady player even when she was shooting terrible. Also, she ended up as the 25th leading scorer in OU history and did yhis in 3 years when the ones ahead of her played 4 seasons. I do not understand how some think a newbie will come in and do better. It will probably be the same starting lineup besides Peyton and the bench will be without the experience of Edwards, Carter, and Wyatt. I hope I am wrong. Also, why did LaNesia Williams not nit the floor against Gonzaga or Washington? Was she hurt or ill?
