Still puzzled about lack of student support (at LNC)

I guess the last two years could have soured the student body on the sport. Or maybe it's more "cool" to be an OKC Thunder fan. I don't know.

IMO, I think it's a combination of both, especially the latter considering OKC is off to such a great start.

I think that aforementioned combination has contributed to OSU's decrease in student support, as well.

Consistent winning...as Senior said, it's not rocket science.

Was again blown away by the lack of support from the non-student sections. Not sure what kept everybody away tonight. The weather? We were playing a top 10 team, I was hoping for a lot more butts in the seats in the other sections. Student section was decent, probably the best it's been all season long from an attendance/noise standpoint. Still got a long way to go though, but it's improvement.

I didn't get to make the game, but from what I could tell on TV, the crowd seemed loud and into the game. The student section was much fuller than previous game (way to go Top Daugs!). It looked like the yellow shirt gestapo were absent and people moved down into the lower bowl. Was this the case?

This year, the people in the yellow shirts have been great about telling people they could move down to the lower bowl after the first timeout. The rufneks have also moved through the crowd in the upper bowl delivering the message.

It is all fans not just the students. However, the students are the ones that need to get the crowd going.

Loved the crowd last night, even if I could see empty seats. They were very loud on TV, the skinny white balloons for second half free throws were a nice touch by the student section area :)

Not just an OU issue...

The student section at Cameron Indoor Stadium has long been considered a college basketball staple, complete with body-painted undergraduates heckling opponents and Dick Vitale body-surfing.

It seems that the once-renowned section has quickly lost much of its luster, though.

According to the Duke Chronicle, only 650 students have attended each game – just more than half of the 1200-person capacity for the student section. The school has been selling general admission tickets in the student section in an effort to fill it.

The lack of interest in standing in the rain and other weather conditions has turned some students off from going to games, although Garrett said people can show up a half-hour before tipoff and still get a ticket in the student section. According to the paper, the lack of marquee teams playing at Cameron has been another problem. Duke has played several of its top non-league games at Madison Square Garden, and the ACC isn’t exactly loaded with top-10 teams this season.

Against Wake Forest, head coach Mike Kzyzewski had to encourage the students to get louder during the game. That’s not a good sign.

"Students need to realize that going to Cameron is . . . an awesome experience," co-head line monitor Ellie Garrett told the paper.
