Ten man rotation

As a coach, it is hard to play 10 guys. you really need it down to 8 at the max. I know its great having that much depth, but those top 8 need to gel together and really work well.

I disagree unless you have a clearcut 8. I think if your 6-10 is all relatively the same you can easily have an effective 10 man rotation.
Especially if you're playing an uptempo pressure style of offense and defense.

I agree with Cheno. That was the case in OU's only #1 rank at the end of the regular season in 1990. There were no superstars on that team (which contributed to an early NCAA exit), but it was the only time OU ever went a legit 10 deep (sometimes 11). Oddly enough, the team's 10th or 11th best player that year, Terrance Mullins, was the 6th man on their best team ever.

We will see. If they have 10 that can flat play and play well. The more the better, You rarely see ANY team go 10 deep and win a lot of games.

Roy Williams had no trouble doing it.

Yeah. Our kids are not that good. We are not a UNC level... Yet...

How can a guy (shooter) get into a groove when he keeps coming out every three minutes or 5 minutes... Its hard to do.

Ask any coaches that you know, the majority will say, they would rather stick with a top 8...

I mean yeah, if you had a 10 5-star recruits or a great backup for each starter than it would be great, but we are going to have a drop off...

I do agree with you, 10 is way to many....but why do you think we will have a drop off?

PG: Blair --> Newell
SG: Pledge --> Taylor
SF: Cade --> Clark
PF: Thompson --> ??
C: Fitz --> Washington

Aside from the PF spot I am not so sure we would have much of a drop off at all....plus who do we play? I can see there being a 9 man rotation...with the 9 being the people above. And when we sub in for the PF spot we just slide either fitz or washing down

Who do you cut out of the rotation next year??

1 Blair
2 Newell
3 Taylor
4 Clark
5 Osby
6 Thompson
7 Washington
8 Fitz
9 Goff
10 Pledger

From that list I would assume thompson and washington would be left out

I could see 10 guys getting time for the first part of the season...and by 10 guys i mean 10 guys that all share minutes, not one or two that see 2 or 3 minutes...but i really doubt we see that many playing a lot during conference season...

10 may see the court, but 2 of those probably only log a couple of minutes apiece...

If I was at practice everyday, I could tell you who wouldnt see the floor much. I know there are times that you are going to play more if someone is in foul trouble or someone gets hurt or hot... I understand that.

You think we have more depth than a KU or Duke or whoever..? Why doesnt duke play 10... I bet their 10th man is just a good as ours, but he isnt going to see the floor.

If it was so common than everyone in america would be doing it, I know that it is way too hard to play 10 guys.

If you think our top 10 is so good, then we need to start talking deep run into the NCAA tourney. (Im a huge OU fan, I breathe basketball day in and day out) Im realistic though. I hope Im wrong and we play well enough to get into the NCAA, I just think we need to do it with 8 guys.

I agree 100%. Its easy to do drills right in practice, but doing it live in front of 20,000... thats a different story.
