Terry Evans or Greg Marshall

It is hard to win at any level of college coaching if you have no budget for recruiting. Oklahoma is not known for being a college basketball factory turning out player after player in high school. But, UCO has to play against other teams that can recruit really good local talent in their areas which makes Terry's success that much more impressive. Give him some money with which to recruit and I have no doubt he will bring talent to OU as well. His style of basketball will help put fans back in the seats.

Marshall.

I thought Turgeon was an awful hire at the time A&M hired him. I was wrong.

Definitely Marshall, although we are supposedly his third choice behind NC State and Missouri, I think Shaka Smart ends up at one of those schools, I hate to say it but I think Gregg ends up at the other.

I'm not sure how anybody could not say Marshall, who is a proven winner at the D I level. Evans' only experience in coaching at the D I level was his brief stint as Director of Operations at OU. Evans would be a HUGE gamble.

It pains me because I like Terry, but Marshall. I just think the constant wave of negative recruiting would continue but also take on the form harping on inexperience. Definite up hill battle that would take time that I don't think we would have the patience for.

Yes sir. The Lone Star conference is such a monster that it has produced exactly one national champion and zero runners-up since going D2 in 1982.

Neither. Let's just hire some random high school coach. Probably have similar results.

An apparent lack of reading comprehension skill is evident in the above post. Norm was making an apples-to-apples comparison regarding Evans' ability to compete with other schools in his conference whose recruiting budget dwarfs that of UCO. There wasn't even the slightest implication that the Lone Star Conference is some kind of basketball "monster."

However, if I was Joe C., and those two were the last coaches living on this earth, I would go with Evans. Marshall is a pompous idiot with limited coaching abilities. Seen his skills in person on numerous occasions.

I'm sorry but I'll go with the guy's resume which has been proven over a 10 year period rather than some anonymous internet poster that swears he is a clueless idiot because he's "seen his skills in person on numerous occasions."

Did Marshall steal your lunch money or something? You act like Jim Traber when he gets his feelings hurt.

This is going to come down the last man standing...............Terry Evans!

Listen, I am a fanatic of OU Sports and I Love me Some OU Hoops! But guys, this is not the pretty girl or hansome man situation right now! The OU Program is a train wreck right now! No fan base, not much talent on campus now, and the Cloud of the NCAA??????

At this point hire Terry Evans and let him rebuild The Program. Pay him 750K and see where he takes it!

People talk about Negative Recruiting about OU having a DII Coach.............Blah, Blah, Blah.............. If you do not think that Negative Recruiting against OU about the NCAA and fan base is not going on already.........****, get over it!

Hire a OU Guy who wants to be here. Not only does he want to be here, but he coaches the style of basketball fans here have been craving for years, has good connections in Oklahoma, Texas, and even more Juco Programs. We need Juco now more than ever to rebuild.

At the end of day, I think Evans would end up being a solid coach if not outstanding coach. To take it a step beyond, I do not think he would ever leave - which is a great piece of the puzzle too!

Flame away!

No flame from this fan; I like the way you think.

While I would have LIKED to have been able to hire a more seasoned coach, with the current crop of prospects, Evans is as good as any, including Marshall.

He (if hired), MAY flop as did John Blake. But it won't be because that he can't coach: we KNOW that he can coach, just look at his track record! We know that he can recruit, again looking at his track record.

If OU passes on hiring Evans and goes with another (safer), more-seasoned candidate, I predict that in 5 years time that people will be saying "Man, I wish that we'd taken Evans when we had the chance".

I think that he is a rising star, who just hasn't yet been given his chance to show what he can do at the Big Boy level...

He hasn't risen very far.
Is he not interested in coaching Div I unless it's at OU?
He talks about how he could recruit and that he's always been a winner. It's just talk. Why hasn't he tried to get a mid-major job and prove it?
Does he plan to coach at UCO until someone at OU finally gives him a shot even if it's 20 more years?
Has he interviewed but no one wanted to hire him?
It just seems strange. Most people that want to coach Div I ball are motivated enough to do what it takes to get there. Not sit around waiting for their dream job to be handed to them.

What scared me is that everyone has such strong opinions on who they want the coach to be that it seems to lead to a hatred of other coaches named. When a coach is eventually named most of this board will probably not agree with the choice. At the end of the day, however, we all have to support the new coach 100% or we will be right back in this situation in a few years. Fan support will fill the seats which will improve play and in theory will bring the program to a higher level than it currently sits. I guess I'm just hoping all of this talk of I don't want this guy or that can turn into support when a coach is finally picked... Boomer!
