Terry Evens Resigns

Sounds like he wants to spend some time with his son before he goes to college. I can respect that.

Evans was a good PG for the Sooners and I have always wanted for him to do well. He was an assistant under Tubbs for a while at TCU and was later the Director of basketball operations at OU under Sampson, before taking the Central State job. With all his success at Central State, I'm a little surprised he hasn't moved up the coaching ladder somewhere.

His father Eddie was a HS coaching legend in Oklahoma, and also was a Sooner PG.

The way he can recruit oklahoma high school kids, I'm surprise no one has hired him as an assistant.

Terry really wanted the TU job when Manning got it. He was very disappointed he wasn't hired. Best of luck to him. He's a good guy.

Terry was only Director of Basketball Operations at OU for a year, and announced he was leaving even before he got the Central State job. I had the feeling at the time that things didn't work out well between he and Sampson. Maybe the position wasn't what he expected and he wanted more hands-on coaching. Things just seemed awkward at the time.

From what I have heard, Terry is trying to get the Jenks head coaching job.

Do high school basketball coaches make a nice living in Oklahoma? I would assume it depends a lot on the school district but I have no clue if that would be a six figure job or a teacher's salary with a little extra pay for the added duties of coaching. (I don't mean to insult teachers in any way, i am just recognizing it is a profession that does not pay as high as some other professions.)

HS football coaches can make 6 figures at the bigger programs like Union/Jenks/BA. But that usually also involves them either being the AD as well or teaching or both.

As far as basketball, you couldn't make a living by just coaching basketball. Martin, who just resigned, was also a Asst. Principal on top of coaching b-ball.

From reading the article, I didn't take it that he was definietly going to go back to HS ranks. It sounded to me like he would much rather have a D1 asst. coaching job somewhere. I would love for him to be an asst. at OU, but we don't currently have any openings. He was a great player for OU and a great person.

Talking to people at Jenks he has expressed interest in the job and is one of 10 getting an interview as of last week.

To get to 6 figures you better be an AD and have a really good camp for basketball. The football stipend for head coach is much more. Most HS basketball coaches have to teach classes as well. Not always but most of the time they do.
