Well, he had been starting so far this season. He apparently tore up his knee slipping on a wet spot on the floor in pregame warmups last night before the Pitt game. Ouch.

Varez Ward, the Longhorn basketball guard who injured his right knee in warmups Tuesday before the game against Pittsburgh, is likely out for the season.

Ward, a sophomore, was carried off the court on a stretcher.

That stinks for Ward. But at least Texas has 4 other PG's they can use to fill his spot.

he played well for them towards the end of last year. tough break.

Hate to see that happen to anyway. Even a Horn.
Actually it's not his knee though but a ruptured quadricep tendon. I've never heard of that in basketball. While a tough break for Ward it could benefit Texas in the long run. He's almost certain to get a medical redshirt and still leave him with 3 more years and with Texas losing James, Pittman, Mason & quite possibly Bradley and Hamiliton after this year having Ward's experience for 3 more years would be a positive. They have plenty of guards this year and as the younger guys got experience it could have lost Ward in the shuffle.

On the flip side, it was good to see the great Dexter Pittman get stuffed by the rim to open the game the other night against Pitt. :ez-laugh:
And he played his usual around 20 minutes. I thought he was going to be a dominant force this year. His 1 rebound in 18 minutes was impressive.
