Well, last month the NCAA approved implementation of the 10-second rule for women's college basketball.

I think that's a good thing for the sport.

Many coaches and experts have similar opinions that the rule won't change the game ALL that much, but it will some.

I think it's going to have a serious impact because it will force a lot of teams to pick the pace up. I think we are going to see more pressing defenses full court and I think the number of turnovers will increase.

Most teams that I have watched like to take their time moving the ball up the court.

As for OU, I think we will have some trouble with it. Morgan isn't exactly a speed demon and she's had some turnover troubles in the past with careless passes when she gets in trouble dribbling.

I think she will adjust fine by conference play, however.

I'm really interested to see if Sherri presses more. I hope she does.

What does everyone else think?

It will require more effective ball-handling skills to get the ball across in ten seconds. Guards become more important.

Less dribbling and more passing. The quickest and most efficient way to move the ball is through good solid fundamental passes. Come meet the ball, pivot and continue on. Teams that drill this into their players will be very successful moving the ball from one end to the other, those that continue to rely on the dribble against pressure will have a difficult time. Just one man's opinion. Simple solution, but it ain't rocket science.

Coming to the ball on a pass is a problem we seem to have more of than we should.

I think a lot of teams do. It's going to be interesting to watch these teams get used to that. Quick ball players with good passing skills are going to be at a premium in the future.

Does girls HS rules have the 10-second rule? If they do it shouldn't affect the game that much, at least as far as knowing how to handle the press.

Brace yourself for more turnovers in OU's box score. The absence of 10 second rule was our saving grace in at least a few possessions last year.

The Sooners ranked 97th out of 343 teams in assist/turnover ratio last year, and that was a team ravaged by injuries. Except for a few teams at the top of the rankings, the difference in the rest of the top 100 was statistically insignificant.

It's not just me saying that. This has been factual truth as long as I've been following women's basketball.

Last year, we ranked 119th in turnovers at 16.2 per game while Villanova was first at 10.5. I'm not sure what our turnovers were the year before but I doubt there was much difference than last year's numbers. I do know that it is common when we have more than 15 turnovers per game.

We ranked 85th in assists at 13.8 per game.

Villanova under Harry Perretta has always been a down-tempo ball control kind of team that nearly always is near the top in fewest turnovers, but the ratio of assists to turnovers is more inportant. However, that statistic has much less correlation to success than some others, such as rebound margin and the ratio between shooting percentage and shooting percentage allowed.

Morgan Hook does a pretty good job handling the ball... I think well be okay until we play a team like Baylor, I think Sims can guard up the court.

Sims doesn't have the protection behind her any longer. I also expect that we will see others bring the ball up----Maddie, etc. This is no longer a one-guard team.

I think Syb is right. Sharane, AE, Maddy, Morgan could all be bringing up the ball and it would make sense for Sherri to implement that so teams can't focus on Morgan.

I have to say that, in my belief, Morgan often has difficulty bringing the ball up when pressed hard. She is a good dribbler, but kind of loses control a lot when she tries to go full-tilt with speed.

I don't know which WNBA game I was watching. I think it was Seattle at San Antonio, and San Antonio was losing an expected game. For a part of the explanation of why Seattle was dominating inside (other than that Appel was injured, and Sophia is out), was that Adams was having a difficult time learning that the WNBA officials are not all that tolerant of the A&M defense---slapping hands and wrists rather than actually getting position. I was amused because it is the complaint that I've had about A&M for years.

Well, I wonder when they will also become less tolerant of the Sims "quickness," which is based on the "A&M defense."

What about w.v., that is their defense exactly..

Adams has to use her hands because she is slow compared to most WNBA players.

I need to complain about something when we have a winning postseason regular program, and since SF.com is now back from being hacked, I choose to complain about womens basketball's turnover issue :)

Soooo...bye? I promise to visit every so often!

STOP TURNING OVER THE DAMN BALL OR I'LL START CALLING YOU LADY SOONERS :D:D:D:D

I noticed in watching the USA/Australia game that the International game has an 8 second backcourt rule.
