Lack of depth was key, imo.
I think OU would have been better off letting them shoot the 3-pointer and not given up dribble penetration.
That's the most frustrating part.
I would have been fine with just losing this game.
But I can't deal with losing due to mental weakness down the stretch. I was sick enough with the mental weakness of Capel's teams. I can't deal with it anymore.
Hopefully the team responds well to this. But with a team made up of guys who have never been winners at this level, who knows...
Maybe these guys just need to learn how to win tight games?
Or, maybe the fatigue on Grooms having to carry the load against the pressure d caused him to lose mental focus, which then carried over to the other guys?
You sound like you are ready to write off the entire season. It's too early for that. I bet these guys will win more close games than they lose as the season goes along.
This, OU lacks a closer.Maybe these guys just need to learn how to win tight games?
Rome was not built in a day nor was it perfect.... It sucks, but our team proved it could compete against a great team and dominate for 35 minutes... Now just have to perfect the final 5
I was thoroughly unimpressed with Cincinnati. Their pressure defense was solid, but they couldn't throw the ball in the ocean on offense. They shot 28% from the field and 23% on 3 pointers, many of which were wide open. They did nothing but jack up 3 pointers all night.
We completely blew that game. The last six minutes we missed the front end of two one and ones, repeatedly allowed Cincinnati to drive in for layups, didn't rebound, turned the ball over, and missed open shots.
Hopefully we can learn how to finish a game as the season continues. Tonight was ugly.
