The losing streak

Blah blah blah blah blah

Come up with some new material

This is new material... The last post was about a 4 game losing streak, now its 5, and its gonna be 7 or 8.

You are a strange guy seniorsooner.. You aren't really a sunshine brigade type, but you also spend a good deal of time coming after the negative people. Apparently you don't put yourself on either side?

I've been very critical of Capel and even during todays game I was critical because we are so undisciplined.

However, I've bought into the fact Osby will help us tremendously and to the fact Goff will be a force inside. Due to the 4 wins we have, which was 3 more than I predicted, then I'm willing to give him one more year.

However, if he is fired after this season, I won't lose any sleep about it and I will pray Joe will find hire 1 of the 3 candidates in this order:

1.) Gregg Marshall
2.) Doc Sadler
3.) Terry Evans

If OU firs Capel OU could lose Pledger, Fitzgerald and Clark. I don't think that is a risk worth taking.

Losing players to transfer off of a losing team sometimes isn't all bad.

[ducks]

So we let these kids hold our program hostage? I'm not sure what the right answer is, but keeping a coach because some players MAY leave if he is fired isn't great athletic department policy.

Jeff Capel is all about rewriting the record book at Oklahoma. He guided us to our first losing season since 1981 last year. With yet another losing season this year, we'll suffer our first back to back losing seasons since the late 60s. He's a joke of a coach. What's most astonishing to me, however, is that a lot of fans on this board think he deserves another year. What makes them think that he's going to right the ship next year? Yeah, we're adding one good post player in Romero Osby and one project in Robert Goff. Are we going to have a 25 win season just because we added those two guys?

Joe Castiglione is widely regarded as one of the best ADs in the business. He always seems to make the right decisions whether its selecting a coach, raising money, or building new facilities. Unfortunately, he got it wrong when he picked Jeff Capel. It's responsibility to fix it. After our season ends, he needs to tell Capel to pack his **** and get the **** out of town.

If I sound angry and belligerent, it's because I am. I am 25 years old, so during the first years that I started closely following sports, OU football sucked. Kelvin Sampson's basketball teams were the best thing going on this campus from 1994-1999. I didn't care about our football woes because basketball was right around the corner. For that reason, OU basketball has a very special significance for me. Jeff Capel has destroyed all that.

Well, I'm pretty close to being double your age, and I have been following ALL OU sports since I was a child attached to my father's hip. He taught me to LOVE all things OU, and it never left me. I attended OU during the Switzer era, and it is one of my best memories ever, watching those powerhouse teams up close and personal....

I also continued to support OUr football and b-ball teams, during eras that included Blake, Gibbs, Bliss, etc... I hate losing as much as anyone, but when we are struggling in any given sport, I will continue to support the school and teams. I have not loved every coach that we trotted out, yet I will support them until the admin who makes big money to make decisions, makes a decision......

I have recognized OUr shortcomings as everyone else has. I also am willing to give JC another yr to fix what went wrong last yr. This yr to me is a formality, as most of the people who have railed on JC were here most of the summer talking about how we would struggle this yr....

If JC isn't the answer, then OU will find a better fit, and we will return to prominence. I will support the team/coach until the new regime arrives, whenever that happens. You spoke about having disbelief over fans who are willing to give OUr coach another yr. My disbelief is just as great if not greater, at OU fans who spend the better part of each day complaining and *****in' about something that was expected before the season.

Confuses me as much as the lynch mob who wanted to run KS out of town because his style of ball was boring??:facepalm:facepalm

Why should he be on EITHER side?? Why can't he just be a guy who loves the University of Oklahoma, and supports the program through the tough times?? Makes you think that many don't really support Oklahoma Univ, they support only the winners. I'm 100% in agreement with Sr.

New material is needed. You guys have made it known how you feel about the coach. Its not going to change midway through the season. Why not just take a break, and if its so bad that you can't stand it, take a freakin' break.....

If something bothered me so much that it became an obsession, I would like to believe that I could walk away from it until either I was better able to deal, or it changed for the best. I'm going to support whoever the coach/players are until OUr admin makes a change.....

There is no logic in what you are saying. Just because we expected to be ****ty this year doesn't mean Jeff Capel and his team had to live down to our expectations. I'm not for firing Capel because of just this season. I want him gone because of last season, this season, and the completely lack of hope we have as a program right now. I'm actually a pretty optimistic guy, but I can't see us ever getting back to consistent 25 win seasons under Jeff Capel. If he isn't the long term solution, why give him another year? Aren't we just delaying the rebuilding process by one more miserable year?

So, if someone is destroying something that we have loved for decades, something we have supported for decades, should we just “take a break” and act like we do not care? Should we just “take it” and “relax” and “take it easy” while someone is killing the OU basketball program?

Some of us have loved and supported the program for decades. We still love and support the program. We still go to the LNC to see the games in person. We are passionate about OU basketball. We still stand up and cheer the team. Nevertheless, we can see beyond the shadow of a doubt that Coach Capel has proven that he is nothing special as a big time college coach. There are lots of average basketball coaches out there, and Jeff Capel is one of them. The University of Oklahoma can do better. The University of Oklahoma deserves better.

With the current regime in place, I see nothing to give me confidence that the team will be anything better than an average Big-12 team next season, or the season after that, or the season after that.

We all wish things were better, but they are not. So there you are. You will continue to see the disgust with the state of the basketball program at the University of Oklahoma expressed on these message boards. Frankly, I find it encouraging that other fans can see the obvious, and continue the call for change.

It could be that fans are actually hurting the program if they attend games in person, if this attendance helps to continue the mediocrity we now have. I have thought seriously about this, but so far I still go to all the games.

:clap

I actually received a PM from another poster yesterday calling me a douche because he says I'm too negative about the program? :ez-laugh:

He then asked me to start posting positive comments or don't post. WTF?

I told him to put me on ignore, which he claims he did so he can't read this.

I stated after the 4 game winning streak I would be OK if Capel was back. I am still to that point, but I don't have much confidence he can right the ship. I'm kind of in the same boat as Denver that I don't want to lose Fitz, Clark, Newell, and Pledger, but honestly, where would they go? Clark would be the biggest loss, and Fitz would be a big loss, but losing both wouldn't be something we couldn't recover from.

Can we please keep the PM's private? And yes, I know Klegg revealed the details of one of yours the other day, too. But they are private messages for a reason, and I don't care to know the details of those of other people.

My PM to him/her was that I hoped he/she wouldn't take my disagreements with him/her negatively and too keep on posting because I liked what he/she had to say, even though I didn't agree with all of it.

I had been disagreeing with him/her a lot at that point and didn't want him/her to think I was just focusing on his/her posts and that it wasn't personal because we all are fans of the same team, but have differing opinions.

My PM was never asking him/her to quit posting because he's/she's too positive or too negative.

Is Denver, abd, 04, Traveler, Sid, and others who aren't as "sunshiney" getting PM's asking them to stop posting negative comments, too?

I think most players would stay if OU brought in a good coach. It would be no fun to sit out a redshirt year somewhere else, when they can get minutes here next season playing for a better coach.

I have reached a "tipping point" and the sunshine is gone. Losing at home to crummy programs like Nebraska and multiple 5-game losing streaks have broken the last straw for me.

For decades, I drove down to the LNC always thinking we could beat ANYBODY at home, no matter how highly ranked the other team was. Those days have become ancient history. I hope we don't get slaughtered next Saturday.

I agree. It is not a VALID reason to bring Jeff back for a 6th season.

Jeff's record speaks for itself. You have every right to feel frustrated. IMO, loyal fans like yourself have been taken for granted. There is nothing wrong with voicing your displeasure regarding the debacle the basketball program is currently in.

Joe and Jeff are the two people responsible for the mess they have created. I will continue to speak to out and voice my opinion until the situation gets corrected regardless of what anyone else says or IMPLIES!

If OU fires Capel OU could lose Pledger, Fitzgerald and Clark. I don't think that is a risk worth taking.

If OU keeps Capel we could lose Pledger, Fitzgerald, and Clark. He doesn't exactly have the best record of keeping players around.

I just don't think the potential transfers that might occur if Capel is let go can factor into the equation.

I wonder if Joe C. has already started to formulate a database/research candidates. Often times, in coaching searches, the early bird gets the worm.

Joe will have a difficult time attracting an established/successful coach if he offers beer money. If he plans on going cheap again, he should go after a defensive minded coach. That might quiet some of the Sunshiners that don't believe offense is important.

OU needs a well rounded coach that believes in playing stingy defense and has an offensive philosophy that will force his opponents to play defense. One trick ponies do not win national championships.

IF JC gets another yr and he doesn't turn it around, I will be glad to agree with you about his abilities. I'm not sure if he can get us back to where we were or not, but I will cheer him on until he either does so, or he moves on. I won't say that I'll eat crow because I never took the stance that JC is the answer. My stance has always been that the constant *****in' ruins the board. IF he does get another yr, and things go North, I hope that all of your yrs of support, and all of your well documented trips to games will culminate in you eating a little crow and recognizing that you may have been wrong... For the record there are many others who have driven to games, supported and cheered, and donated, and not all of them are in agreement with you about JC.........
