Let guys play 6 or 7 games and still redshirt.

It's just common sense. Let the young guys play a little bit their first year so they feel like their practice work is paying off, but let the guys need to redshirt. It would be huge to be able to have a guy like Odomes back for a 5th year next year, and there are plenty of other guys in the last 20 years where it's the same deal.

100% agree & I bet it happens soon.

Yes but should only he available to first year players

This kind of already happens. Watch Kur Kuath get a redshirt for this year even though he appeared in some early season games.

... with a doctors note.

But in football they can play in any 4 games, doesn’t have to be early season like a medical redshirt would require.

That's because of injury. And yes, I know that teams sometimes fabricate injuries to get a redshirt for a guy, but they shouldn't have to.

The main thing is that coaches should be able to play these guys a bit. We've obviously only got one freshman on the roster and he's a starter, but imagine we had another kid on the roster who wasn't ready to contribute yet. It would be nice if you could put him out there in the final 10 minutes of the Vandy game as a reward for practicing hard and to get him some real reps.

I actually don't think that happens much -- the NCAA has to be shown that someone not only is injured, but that it was a season-ending injury. They don't just take your word for it. If it was that easy to fudge, KU wouldn't have been redshirting Agbaji for the first two months; they would have played him a few games before coming up with a fake injury. It would be a huge risk for any team to think they could play a guy and then hope for a medical redshirt.
