Look, guys. This is a terrible basketball team. We are going to be terrible this year, one of the worst teams in OU history. Quite possibly the worst team in the Big 12. No way we finish with a .500 record, probably not even close. Even last year's team would beat this team handily.

I hate to be so negative. I'd love to believe we are going to win a bunch of games. You can't really hold it against the players. Many of them have no business playing in the Big 12, but if an Oklahoma gives you a scholarship when no one else of that caliber will, you can't blame them for taking it.

But the talent level of this team is just atrocious. This is so obvious I am amazed so many people fail to acknowledge it. I still love my Sooners, but wow, we are going to be bad this year and for quite a while after. I can't imagine how Capel ever turns this around and survives.

This is the point where I would normally say "I hope I'm wrong". But I'm not. I'm no basketball expert - just a random fan - but even I can see it.

I don't think the talent level is "atrocious". Yes we have some "filler" guys that in past years we would have not have even thought about recruiting, but we also have:

Newell
Clark
Taylor
Cade
Fitz
Pledger

Those 6 all have the talent to play in the Big 12. I think Blair has the talent to be a reserve level player in the Big 12. The jury is still out on Thompson and Washington. Ahmed is a project.

This season is going to be rough, but when you start to look at our roster for next year, things seem much, much brighter.

I feel ya but Im not quite there...yet. This is a total loser statement but: we can only get better. Now i dont know how much better but I do think we will. I think Capel was mixing it up and seeing what worked last night. I think he will settle in on a very small number 7-8 guy rotation and thats what we will go to war with. I think its our best shot.

I agree with everything you just said...

This team reminds me of some of those really bad Nebraska/ Baylor teams that would come into lloyd noble and get drilled by 30 a few years ago. Ill be surprised if we finish above 11th.

I'm amazed that we can get all of this after one "game" that didn't even count. It was a glorified practice after a few weeks of practice with a grand total of three guys that contributed last season. We'll see I guess, and the OP may be right, but dang it seems early to bury these guys, the season hasn't even started yet.

So if thompson isnt going to help us much why did capel sign him? I agree I dont think he benefits this team at all...he is athletic but he stands around at the three point line to much....and he only has two years to play so its not like we have the time to make him a low post threat
Depending on what washington does it could be that he may not help us much either

I love our other signees.....newell, taylor, clark will all help out immidiately...ahmed I like his potential

It sure would be nice having another open scholorship to give away this year instead of wasting it at the last minute last year

You can still get a good idea of how guys like to play after one game....I am not worried about our guard play or our ability to hit the three because I think we will be fine....but we have no post presence....thompson showed no sign of wanting to go downlow....our only hope is washington can keep putting up big rebound numbers like he did in juco

It's practice man, PRACTICE!

I saw this coming last Spring when the roster was filled up with plan C guys, the board was going overboard with joy complimenting Capel for landing these guys.
I just wish the roster hadn't been entirely filled and now our hands are tied for this year with much better prospects out there.

This will basically be the team for the next two years unless the team is gutted again, which very likely could happen.

Agree on the six, they're just young (besides Cade, who is still a role player on the better teams). Blair is serviceable as an upper classmen. Besides that though, the talent is atrocious.

Considering how woeful the team was last season, every opportunity presented to the team to be used as a stepping stone for improvement should be used as such, exhibition or not.

Well they did improve over the course of the game. We went from down 4 at the half to winning by 11.

Its obvious that we are going to be pretty bad. And as bad as our team was last year, TMG, Gallon, and Warren would have all started over these players a year ago.
The fact that Cade Davis is our best player should say enough about our expectations. I think Washington could be really good...but unfortunately we didn't get to see him play. I don't think that we have 1 player on our roster that would start for any of the other big 12 teams..except maybe nebraska and ISU.

I don't think the future of this team is bad, with Pledger, Osby, Washington, Clark, and Fitzgerald. They are just too young to make any impact this year.

Osby - will come in and have the same impact as Kelly did at K-st
Washington - Maybe the only guy that can save this year. A 1st team juco AA wins my confidence until proven other wise
Fitzgerald - needs to play the 4 not the 5.

I have no doubt that Capel can coach...I just don't know how good he can recruit. He needs to go and get him an assistant who can bring in players(w/o violating the rules).

I think we could have won a championship with Griffin he could have brought in some decent talent with him and the year after. (Early, Davis, and Neysmith) (Warren, Allen, Cannon, Willis, and Pattillo). Warren and Pattillo were great but the rest was horrible. Davis needed time but these are the type of recruiting classes he's bringing in.

06-09
Maze, Clark, Neysmith, Early, Cannon, Pattillo, Willis, Allen, Hardrick(assuming) = Transfer
Davis, Pledger(assuming), Fitzgerald(assuming), Crocker, Wright = graduated
Griffin, Warren, Gallon, TMG = Draft

The funny thing is...the players that have transfered looks similar to the talent we have right now.
